New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin has been suspended for three games for elbowing Ottawa Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson during Game 2 of the teams’ Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series in New York on Saturday, April 14, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 10:32 of the second period. Hagelin was assessed a major penalty for elbowing. Alfredsson suffered an injury as a result of the hit.
 
what a crock of bs...............1st time offender.... wow the NHL should have Obama in charge too.... what a joke....... Carkner better get 30 games then. He was ACTUALLY TRYING TO HURT SOMEONE..

i don't understand what Obama has to do with any of this. people cry when a dude gets suspended, people cry when a dude doesn't get suspended. what gives?

OK so blatantly ramming someones head into the glass shouldnt get a suspension because hes a 1st offender???? Your logic is so failed. He targeted Alfys head, injured him. He pays the price. And like i have said numerous times before these 2-3 game timeouts are not getting through. give these fools the book.

And Hagelin was what, swatting a fly on Alfies head?
 
hmmm...3 games for that and Phillips tries to decapitate Callahan with his elbow twice in the same play and doesn't even get a review from Shanny?star power at work i guess:rolleyes:.time to bring up Krieder!

Phillips is a star? When did this happen?
 
i meant Alfredsson recieving the injury probably got the league interested more than Callahan shaking off a potential injury from Phillips hit in the first period.
 
if not considering all the other hits this postseason, i would say 3 games is right for this hit. 3 games in the postseason is a long suspension. that's half a series.

i don't see any consistency at all in suspensions so far, but that is another story.

Agreed. I love Alfredsson, but 3 games was at least 1 game too much.

Are you serious? Did you ever think that Carkner was protecting his teammates. How is it any different from Boyle taking liberties with Karlsson's face? It's not Carkners fault that Boyle turtled like a school girl. Its obvious Boyle went for the star player just as Hagelin went for Alfies head. Boyle got exactly what he deserved and if you ask me I think maybe Konopka should have gone after him when Neil was finished with him. Carkner gets to sit out one game and Boyle gets nothing. What a crock!
 
I agree with three games. I'm not sure about Alfredsson's status, but that was a pretty blatant blow to the head. You can even see Alfie trying to move out of the way, and Hagelin makes the extra effort with his elbow.

I don't see any comparison with Carkner's action. Carkner attempted to engage Boyle before dropping the gloves and taking it to him, at least giving Boyle a chance to fight back. It's tough to do that when you're throwing an elbow at someone's head. My take is that Carkner was sending a message using his fists, something that has always been part of the game even if some us don't enjoy it. What Hagelin did was something that has no place in the game, and that only detracts by keeping players out.

A well placed elbow has always been a part of the game too. Just saying.
