I have two hobbies - hoarding cardboard occupies me 364 days a year, but every Halloween I spend pretty much a full day carving pumpkins. So I figured to celebrate tonight why not show a bit of both?
Up until '07 I was pretty much a two eyes, triangle nose, and crooked mouth kinda guy, then I stumbled across some pictures of cool pumpkin carvings on the Internet and thought "Hey, I can do that"... so here are my annual efforts since then...
Hallowe'en 2008 - can't believe my first attempt came out so nice, of course I probably agonized over every detail, and spent some 16 hours or so very painstakingly working at it. A few more details on the headless horseman might have made it more clear he's leaning forwards and reaching backwards holding up his pumpkin head in his hand, but I was just happy the pumpkin head actually looks like a pumpkin.
Hallowe'en 2009 - not every pattern looks as good on the pumpkin as it does on paper, but this one really works.
Hallowe'en 2010 - really like haunted houses, this one turned out beautifully.
Hallowe'en 2011 - tried to get a little too fancy here, this is supposed to be Van Gogh's Starry Night, learned I should just stick to classic Halloween stuff.
Hallowe'en 2012 - back to basics, a spooky pirate ship, a tad simplistic, but worked a lot better than the year before.
Hallowe'en 2013 - did a couple that year, one "simple" one with my nieces of some cats in a tree, and then a spooky forest.
Hallowe'en 2014 - tried something a little more artistic with an antique style frame, turned out alright but not quite as classic as some of my earlier attempts.
Hallowe'en 2015 - with Hallowe'en on the weekend this year had enough time to do a couple, another attempt at a haunted house, this one is so-so with so much blank space... the owl in the tree came out a lot nicer.
Ok, on to some cardboard as promised ... a couple Sedin additions courtesy of a deal with Matches. Glad to have the Ice quad off the wantlist as I missed out on the first two copies of this x/5 beauty on the 'bay... and always good to knock the dual fighting strap cards off the list (makes me wonder - do players like the Sedins even bother doing up their fight straps? Not like they ever really need them).
And the latest pickup for my Masterpieces master set, my twelfth hand painted portrait out of the 20 card set (#13 MacKinnon is incoming) - really love these original art pieces, the Ovy is quite a sweet looking card. It'll look really amazing one day if I can ever put all 20 of them together. Got most of the bigger names ones so far (including Orr, Toews, Crosby, Lemieux, Beliveau, etc.), with one notable exception, the Gretzky (if I can ever find one) is sure to set me back a pretty penny.
