Has there been a drop in the amount of Ebay listings?

I'm not sure if this is a summer drop in hockey listings or if the fee's and feedback system are taking there toll on the amount of listings. Let me know what you think.

I've seen my searches cut in half for auction volume when it comes to hockey and football. But since both are in the offseason that is to be expected. Perhaps some who also collects baseball or basketball could add their thoughts since one is starting and the other at the climax.

I've noticed two things:
A drop in the number of listings overall by about 50%.
Increased number of high-end listings with scrupulous attention to shipping/tracking details.

Much of that I attribute to summer. The latter I attribute to eBay's policy change.

I will agree with quincy. Until the fall we will not be able to determine the effects of the new feedback system. However already I have sold a handful of low - mid end cards on this very site that would normally have went on the bay. As far as low end cards the new feedback system will stop alot of people from selling, at least in my opinion. I will only be selling high end items on Ebay as you can rightfully charge for tracking and insurance which will trump the lame new sellers feedback rule.

as some of you know..i have been selling some of my Franzen Cup cards...one of the things i have noticed is the Canadian buyers wont bid because i require Regestered mail with return reciept .. i have also noticed a sharp decline in visits to my auctions..i honestly believe that the feedback system will be the downfall in casual sellers and a great thing for large amounts of cards and/or high dollar cards....

I agree with the listings dropping with about 50%.

But my biggest concern being from Sweden is the ever increasing number of ebay-sellers who will only ship to the US (and Canada mostly). This is of course limiting my chances of getting the cards I want and in the future may lead to my departure of this hobby if this continues to grow.

Also, for those who do sell to Europe, more and more sellers will not ship by regular mail (even for small cards) and to pay $15-17 for a card I would pay $20-30 for means I wont bid at all...

I've noticed that the majority of my e-bay auctions have been won by eastern Canadians and Europeans {Finland and Germany mostly}. Almost 0 sales to the U.S.A.

The guy I chase (Josh Hamilton) has pretty much tripled or quadrupled in both number of listings and value of cards. So there is definitely money out there, and eBay fees and feedback are not discouraging the free swingers.

It might make people more selective, but if its a hot card there's no other option.

OK, so one of the hottest players in baseball might[/b] be a bad example, but it just shows that people will likely never completely abandon eBay.

This is terrible for me doing the Glacial Graphs set. I pretty much rely on eBay to get these and I'm supposed to get $200 in paypal soon! But i guess i really was planning on Saving for Brian Boyle cards

I'll probably only list high end from now on. And I have also noticed the decline in auctions, but I expect that every summer. Though everyone makes a good point when it is due to the new ebay policies.

I have changed my ebay purchase habit, I tend to buy from people with multi listings of cards I want so I can do bulk deals and not get completely hammered on shipping costs. For most of the cards I have looked at I have backed away due to a huge increase in shipping costs. On my last ebay win I paid $7 shipping then was asked for another $9 since I am in Canada, I would have said screw it and asked for a refund but I had captured a whale and wasnt going to give it up.

I know how you feel about S&H costs...then imagine being from Europe and having more and more dealers asking for $10 or even $12.50 for REGULAR mail or $22 for registered mail! This is getting more and more common and frankly it makes me buy less and less cards or ebay...
And some do not even combine shipping, 1 seller who was asking $10 for S&H wanted $10 more for the next card etc. etc..don´t they realize how many potential buyers they miss because of their outrageous charges??

Yes summer time slow down has hit as far as listings go. I will also add that I haven't bought a card since the ebay changes, based only on the fact of the high shipping charge that have hit the cards I want.
