Ran across This listing for a dual Gordie Howe Steve Yzerman auto from 9798 Donruss Elite. I see its being sold by everybody's "favorite" "card enhancer".

When I first glanced, something seemed off to me - because I thought the autographed versions had more of a refractor type finish to them see second link below (I'm not certain if that is the case, just going on memory). So, I asked the seller if they could provide the serial number as well as a pic of the Yzerman auto on the backside of the card. Of course, no response. :|

Just for comparison This dual of the same card is also running.

Any opinions? I have absolutely no intention of bidding on the first one given who is selling it - but I am wondering if it IS a legit auto? Obviously it would be easier to know if they would provide a serial number or scan of the back. Thanks.

I'd say it's legit but no picture of the other side (with the serial #) sets off alarms. Also, to your point about the refractor look: I have a TON of Topps Gold Label. My scanner has a hard time picking up the refractor finish and it's not evident in a lot of my scans.
 
I do not have the unsigned version to compare with unfortunately but I would think that they are the same. The signed cards are the first 100 of the 1500 and therefore are serial numbered out of 1500. For example my Lindros/Thornton is 0042/1500. Here is a link to a front and back reference:

Also, the serial number is difficult to read in scans.
 
What blindros88 said - you need the serial number. And really, unless he's willing to provide a scan of the obverse, ignore this card and wait for a reputable copy.
 
I saw the aucion as well Greg - and an alarm went off.

I was pretty sure that mine (below) and every9one I had seen had the #9 in Gordies' Auto!

LOL anyone selling a Gordie Howe/Steve Yzerman dual and refuses to show the Yzerman side of the card is 1. an idiot and 2. hiding something
 
I would stay far away from this one. He was known too occasionally show off his talents of forging players signatures.

The Howe signature is questionable, and if it is fake it was done very well, Gordie with all due respect is a senior citizen and the hands don`t stay nice and still when he`s signing so it`s kind of looks like the lines on the print out of a Richter scale when he signs.
 
scrutinizing the 2 Howe signatures for a few seconds, you can see some differences:

1. The G, first letter on the card... on the authentic one, the top of the loop comes to a point and continues back down. There's a sharp edge/point at the very top. On the suspected fake, it's rounder and one fluid motion whereas on the "real" one it looks like it was done in 2 strokes.

2. Again on the G... this time the bottom of the loop. On the real one it connects into the "ordie" part of Gordie whereas the fake doesn't. It comes to a stop and "ordie" is continued seperately.

3. The "H" in Howe once again in the real one connects to "owe" in a fluid motion whereas in the alleged fake, it looks like it comes to a stop on the bottom of that sweeping loop.

4. The "9" just looks way off.
 
For what it's worth I've owned two auto copies and both had Gordie's jersey number added. Darn, just seeing it makes me wish I had kept one of them :( . -Mike

Except for the fact that this card is basically 14 years old!

What it really look slike is that he has the insert BTTF card with a fake signature. And Yzerman's signature from back then was really hard to fake - a clue to why it may not be shown. I can almost promise there is no serial number on the card.
 
I'm sure there is a serial number on the card. If the card is serial number is over 101 then its fake, they are all out of 1500 only the first 100 are autographed

Well, the serial number would prove if its a fake or not - as Brad above noted, the first 100 out of the 1500 were signed. My own opinion from owning a few Howe autos and getting some in person - the one in the auction is a forgery. But again, that's my own opinion - just wanted to gather some others. I appreciate all of the feedback. Thanks!
 
I can confirm that my copy has the refractor finish on both sides and Howe signed including a 9
 
WHY OH WHY is anyone even bothering to look at ANYTHING this guy is selling STAY AWAY from anything this twit is selling........anything he has touched is worthless IMO!!! It wouldn't suprise me to find out he has faked a signature now as well!

Yes yes! totally agree Mr. overreaction! Just like I said in my initial post - I had no intention of going after the card. I was trying to gather opinions on whether or not he was faking autos now.

As it is - auction was taken down. No big shock there. Thanks for everybody's help.

I'm well aware that your not bidding its just that anything this guy has forsale is tainted no need to even ask anymore. If find his whole continual existance in the card hobby frustrating....he is basically committing fraud and has been doing so for years now and nothing is being done....I guess all we can do is watch out for each other.
