I sold a card about 7 months ago and it was lost in the mail. I refunded the buyer the full amount. This afternoon, the mail man hands me a package. I was surprised to see that it was FROM me to someone else. I opened it up and boom. There is the card. The mail man had no explanation.. i was awestruck not only because I got the card back, but I trusted my gut feeling that this buyer was being honest. It feels good to know that I was right LOL

Happened to me once on a package I mailed to Germany, and I sent it Express with signature tracking, cost me around $30 just to mail it. Tracking worked until it got to Germany, then no more activity after that. At first I didn't believe the buyer as Express packages almost never get lost, but my gut said he might be telling the truth. I refunded him, he left me positive feedback, and almost a year later I got it back in the mail. No explanation, address was correct, it just sat in a PO in Germany forever and instead of delivering it when they found it, they sent it back to me.

On my second Registered Mail experience like this. First one to Germany was returned to me 2 months later. Buyer was patient and I just re-sent with success.

Second one has been in New York mail receiving for 8 weeks now and the trace is leading nowhere. Again, a patient buyer, but this is rediculous. Hopefully it finds it's way back or to the buyer.

I had never have had a package return back to me, but last year I had a trade show up after being lost in the mail for eight months. I trusted the guy mailed it and it just got lost in the mail, turns out he didn't have my correct house # on it and somehow after 8 months it finally arrived without beling sent back to where it got mailed from.

i had a package that was sent registered and it was lost by the USPS. buyer was irate to say the least even when i showed him the tracking. i refunded the buyer and ebay actually covered the cost of the card. (a big dafuq?! there).

7 months later, the card gets delivered to the buyer and he mailed it back to me.

Only time I've ever not been able to protect myself from a claim against me, eBay/Paypal covered the cost for me too.

It hasn't happened to a piece I've sent out, but early last year, Panini was sending me some stuff I won in a contest. I waited and waited, contacted them a couple of times but was otherwise patient about it. Fast forward 6 months, I get an email from Panini saying that the package they mailed out had been returned to them even though the address and info was all correct. They reshipped it via Fedex and I got a 2 days later.

I guess sometimes it happens.

I had a fairly odd one with a canadian buyer - purchased a high end Ovechkin piece and made payment. I sent out via Registered Mail and emailed tracking number to the buyer - six months went by and I got a package in the mail undelivered. It was said card which had sold for over $150 - never heard a peep from thy buyer. Sent him a couple messages through ebay which he never responded to so I just refunded his money and called it a day. That, in itself was a bit odd.

About a month later I got around to relisting the card - was purchased by the exact same guy who had purchased it prior for more than he offered the first time around - sent via Registered Mail again to the same address and got their with no problem. Never once got any communication from the buyer.

Not exactly the same situation you are discussing Ameet but I figured it was close enough.

I have never received a package back in the mail after a customer has told me they never received their items. Once it is lost in the mail I can only imagine where it goes. Most people are honest. There is the odd person that may tell a little lie here and there, but at the end of the day 99.9% of the time the packages get to their destination.

I have had people in the past though that have actually paid me for the cards after I issued them a refund, only to show up eventually at a later date. It is nice to know that there are honest people out there. As sellers on here know, if a person gets a refund the seller is out of the card or cards and out of the cash.

Sorta on topic, kinda off topic...

I had an issue with SP Game Used Golf that I bought. I contacted UD about it and to make up for the issue, they sent me a few packs of SPGU to make up for it...a month goes and nothing arrives.

I contact UD. They confirm they sent it via UPS but the tracking stops at a certain point. I contact UPS and a few days later I get a letter stating that the product was damaged en route to me. One of their trucks got into an accident and caught fire, destroying everything they had on hand.

UD took care of it for me...they made their claim with UPS and resent me some packs of SPGU Golf. One of the packs had a Tiger Woods Scorecard Autograph. That has to be the most WHACK story I can think of involving the mail.
