Have We Reached The Pinnacle Yet?

It was summer, and Indy (Dr. Jones) and I were relaxing in the lounge, our teaching duties behind us for another year. Suddenly he turned to me and said, "I'm hearing stories of a great treasure in Nepal. We need to outfit an expedition."


"Nepal," I said, "guess that means I'll need to bring my hiking boots and winter parka." The next thing I knew we were heading towards a small village hidden within the Himilayas. This was very isolated territory, with no internet or tv. The people had very little interaction with the outside world. As we met with the village elder, Indy questioned him about the treasure we had heard rumors about. He told us that a mysterious stranger had visited them last year, bringing many strange and wonderful things. He took us to a warehouse that was filled with equipment bags labelled Gary B Enterprises. Inside of them we discovered all kinds of hockey equipment.




The village elder continued his story, telling us that the stranger encouraged them to build something called an arena, and promised them that one day he would return to give them something called an NHL franchise. To encourage travellers to come to their village, he had hidden a treasure up in the mountains. Indy and I were the first travellers to come looking for that treasure. One final detail was revealed to us by the village elder. We were told that we would have to reach the pinnacle (summit) of the nearby mountain, and only then would the final path to the treasure be revealed to us. Indy hates snakes, I hate mountain climbing. After hiring some Sherpa guides we set out, and spent the next week climbing the mountain. As we reached the very pinnacle of the mountain, a strange blue light appeared under the snow. We followed it's path until an ice cave appeared before us.




Upon entering the ice cave we found some treasure chests scattered about. Reaching out towards the first one, it was time to discover what the treasure was made up of.


Now we come to the show part of this show & tell.






Pinnacle was out of business by September of 1998, so I only have a couple of seasons represented. I am missing a few items (mainly the coins), but this is a good representation of their products as they pertain to my Iginla pc.


1996/97 and 1997/98 Seasons






The foil doesn't show up that well in the scans. The first card has silver foil, and the last 2 have gold foil. The last card has a shiny silver surface, while the middle card is identical to the first except for the auto and gold foil.

Update: January 6, 2019 - I'm adding the refractor card, which makes 4 cards for the complete set. Notice the black color swatch at the top, and the surface area around the Rookie Logo is smooth, not ridged like the other cards.

I apologize for the length of this thread, it seemed like a good idea at the time. As you can see, although Pinnacle was only around for a couple of seasons of Iggy's career, they did produce a lot of cards.


I forgot to add my ending. Who knows what the future may bring.

The late 90's is one of my favorite periods for hockey cards. No shields or patches, but lots of funky colors.

Thanks. I was amazed at how many cards I ended up scanning for 2 seasons. Those Certified & Select Certified cards are really thick and really shiny.




One of the other reasons that I used Book Creator was that I wanted to test drive it on my computer. It's only been available for the pc since last summer. This thread was "apple" (mobile) free with the exception of the antique map picture that I took with my iPhone. Since grade 4-6 students rarely (if ever) use iPads in the schools I visit, this is a huge step forward to now use the Chromebooks.

I didn't put this as a "book" for my thread, but this is what it could look like if you wanted to create your own books.

loved the show and tell! Those Pinnacle Inside Cans are great items for any player collectors collection! It was tough as a kid to sit and wait until you got home to use a can opener to "crack your pack" lol

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments. I still have all the cards from inside my cans. The "Stand Up Guys" cards look neat, haven't tried putting them together. Apparently there was a display case that you could buy for the tins.

No, I've never mangaged to pull that card in Seth. What I had labelled as Zenith Gold (beside the Zenith Z-Silver) is actually the base card. I got lazy when I was scanning and went by the color on the card for the label. Didn't recheck my list afterwards. Have you seen many of the Zenith Z-Gold cards around?
