Have you ever sold a card to the player on the card?

In the mid 90's Reed Low, St. Louis Blues enforcer, played juniors in my hometown for the Minot Top Guns...About 10 years ago, we had a Top Guns reunion for the billet families and some of the players that wanted/could come. Reed was the most well known and had such a liking to my Reed Low card collection he signed a bunch of cards for me and then basically took the ones he wanted and gave me 5 autographed 8x10 fighting photos, I wasn't about to drop the gloves for the cards back.....

Used to sell dwayne roloson's aunt the odd card of his. Also used to give his dad base cards so Dwayne could sign and give out to the kids.

Countless times...

Regular buyers are Brian Little's Mom, Brad Marchand's Dad, James Reimer and his Cousin...then there are dozens of unconfirmed cases, but with the same last name.

Worked on a new garage for Charlie Conacher's son recently. Interesting to talk to him about his father and career/memories. I have sold a few cards over the years to different players including the mother of Tyler Plante who wanted everything I had on her son, lol. There have been cards where the name of the buyer makes me suspect they may be related to the player including just recently a couple Bill Durnan cards to a fellow with the same last name (Not a common surname). Interesting topic guys. -Mike

Awesome stories guys!

Mine isn't quite as spectacular but still special to me. Awhile back I discovered that Robbie Schremp's cousin frequents some forums. At the time I was a HUGE Schremp collector and had recently purchased a Springfield Falcons gamer so I started talking to him and eventually we worked out some deals where I sent him my gamer to have Robbie sign in exchange for a bunch of my extra GUs, autos, and rookies of him. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally received my end back and not only did he get my jersey signed, he got me a bunch of signed collectibles of Robbie, Kyle Okposo, and several other Islanders players such as a flag, team photo, magazine cover from Robbie's draft year, and even a cool signed card from his brother who is an up and comer.

No transaction to add but a funny store... We were out grocery shopping this week at Walmart and as I come around the aisle corner with my Rangers shirt on, Matt Cullen and his wife Bridgette come around the corner. Its not uncommon to see Matt around Fargo-Moorhead as he lives in the area, but its a first for me. I've also ran into Danny Irmen (former Wild prospect) as well.

I used to supply Pavol Demitra with all his cards when he played parts of three seasons with the PEI Senators of the AHL. He purchased a nice lexan display piece from me for his cards, and paid by cheque (the first cheque he ever wrote). He really enjoyed getting all of his cards.

Man that's cool :)

I sold Joe Sakic a cellphone back in 2005, spent an hour or so chatting him up about the lockout and a few other things. I went to the back room to grab his new phones, and my boss joked with me that he was going to go tell him how much of a Wings fan I was... I told him "you don't have the balls to do it"... but sure enough, my boss went and told him hahaha... Joe said by this point he was sure the fans hated each other far more than the players did lol. After everything he was kind enough to sign a few business cards for me, and came back in a week later and remembered me by name! I hooked him up with a sweet new phone number... absolutely a pleasure to meet him, couldn't have been any nicer!

I will always bleed for the Red Wings, but I now not-so secretly have a Joe Sakic jersey tucked away in my closet :).

EDIT: Just pulled out the business card, he signed "To James, thanks for everything! -Joe Sakic"

Sold some Rangers cards to Vinny Prospal's wife and son at the White Plains, NY card show back when he was on the Rangers...that's about as close as I came to ever selling to a player.

Anderson Silva and I share a last name, does that count?

LOL I have no stories to share, but have enjoyed reading everyone's posts.
