Henderson 1972 Summit Series game worn jersey up for auction

Now it looks like I am bidding against a Canadian Tire/Forzani Group/Molsons/Canadian Sports Hall of Fame/Canadian Government, all in one group.

This could be more difficult than getting our licenses back. In that case I'm only going against the NHL/NHLPA.

Oh well, looks like the jersey might not be on display at our Cross-Canada Tour stop at the IceBox in Barrie later this month.

I had high hopes.

Should we do a joint-bid, Brian? ITG / The Insider's Edge going up against the Government? How's that for a David vs. Goliath story ;)

I, uhhh ... so there is a slim chance we could be the VERY FIRST PLACE the jersey would be on display?!?

*faints*

Lordy, I think I caught the vapours!

Does anyone want to buy a case of UM-32?

I need to raise some more money for tonight.

I knew this was going to go high, but this?

It will be interesting to see who finally get's it.

And no, I will not be cutting it up if I have the highest bid.

See you at the Ice Box this Saturday.

Bringing a few surprises with me.

Good luck Brian, be sure to let us know if you win it

The bidding is heating up...

THE CANADIAN PRESS
MONTREAL — Much like his celebrated series-clinching goal, the bidding for Paul Henderson’s legendary hockey jersey went down to the final moments.
There were last-day bids in the auction to own the famous 1972 Team Canada jersey now believed to boast the highest price tag for any hockey memorabilia item ever auctioned off.
Potential buyers had until 9 p.m. Tuesday to place bids for the jersey, worn by Henderson when he scored Canada’s winning goal in the Summit Series against the Soviet Union.
The sale price of the game-worn jersey, which has created an impressive buzz since bidding began last month, stood at $411,579 after a new high bid appeared late Tuesday from an unknown buyer.
That surpassed a $374,162 offer Tuesday and the previous high bid of $309,224 at the start of the final day by The Jim Pattison Group, a B.C.-based company.
That company wanted to take the jersey on a Canada-wide tour before donating it to this country’s sports hall of fame in Calgary.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 31 bids had been tendered for the white No. 19 jersey worn during what many consider the most famous goal in hockey history.
The jersey passed from the hands of Henderson, to Canada’s trainer Joe Sgro as a gift, and then to an unidentified private American collector.

I am now officially out of the bidding.

It was that or officially out of my 38 year marriage.

Not sure I made the right choice, but I will live with it.

The ten minute rule is still on and it's now at .................$547,813.00 + the auctions fees!!!

That's crazy

So is it Canadian Tire or the Vancouver multimillionaire?

My money is on Jimmy Pattison. He has a few bucks in his bank account :)

On a side note...the 10 minute rule is the dumbest thing in auctions. I bet this auction actually ends in about 7-8 hours from now. I believe that even if someone bids on another lot, ALL the lots get the extension.

It's the dumbest thing in auctions -- unless you have a lot in the auction itself.

That rule made me about $4K a couple years ago in a Classic auction.
