I got a white envelope from UD today and inside were these:
AfinogenovSOTTs.gif

You notice anything strange?
huh.gif
Yep, stickers on them. I bet all the set builders are really gonna be pleased. BTW, They are available if anyone needs one or two. Mike

Mike

Thanks for the info!

Now my question! Is this the first time UD has done sticker Auto's for a single SOTT?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not one to come flying to UD's rescue or anything like that but this has a LOT more to do with Maxim Afinogenov then UD IMHO. The guy has been a real pain at returning his cards for YEARS now. If anything they are at fault for including him in the auto sets at all, not when they find a solution albeit not an optimal one for returning his redemption autos to the customers.

^ Couldn't agree more Dave,

Yeah it ****s it's not hard signed,
but, at least you got the card.

This spells bad news to all those who were hoping to make the ol "yeah I'm tired of waiting for my afinogenov, I collect Gretzky" call.

You're going to see more and more of this as UD continues to send out stickers for players to send back in batches, and fends off us irate customers who are sick of waiting 9-12 months for redemptions. Add to that, those of us who send back cards for replacement, and I think the whole idea of how to decide whether to keep minor dings as pulled becomes that much tougher, as set builders begin to realize what few hard signeds still exist may come back as stickers.

and before anyone gets all high and holy about how ITG would never bastardize the set continuity by having both stickers and hard signed in an auto set....it's totally not true- case in point being Petr Sykora from 02-03 BAP Signature Series 10th Edition. All were hard signed except Sykora and the sticker that they used stuck out like a sore thumb.

This is a good and bad thing. At least finally you got your card, but it is not what you thought you were getting. It will be interesting to see how set builders respond as the SOTT sets (especially the singles) are one of the most built sets every year. So on one hand, I say good for them for trying to get some redemptions out, but on the other hand, it is an absolute shame on the players relations department for not being able to work with Afinogenov to get the cards signed (of course, I don't know the full story) and it is another shame on the industry that these players keep getting new autograph cards put into sets, which may now result in collectors not getting what they orginally paid for. Just my two cents though...

^ eh, they got what they paid for.
A Maxim Afinogenov autographed card, be it sticker auto or not.
still the card, signed in one form or another.

I disagree. Assuming that there are Afinogenov collectors in this world, they would know that the card is supposed to be hardsigned. It is becoming apparant that hardsigned autos receive a slight premium on sticker autos. Plus, I don't want to touch on the subject as it has been beat to death already, set collectors were also not expecting the card to have a sticker autograph. But as I said before, at least they are trying to get some redemptions, apparantly by any means necessary now.

Here's hoping my SPA Auto/Patch from last year will be comming soon, I don't care if it's a sticker, I just want the card to trade.

meh..
that ****s..

sticks out like a sore thumb from the set...but atleast it'll be finished once it comes in..

Aaron,

You could always get two, remove the sticker and hope to get one IP or TTM

Wow, that's all I can say. Are you gonna be voicing your displeasure to them about this?

maxim is a great signer C/O his home addy in buffalo, so if you send him a card with the sticker peeled off i bet that would work!

Voice your displeasure to who, UD, they don't care. They feel its okay to return damaged cards like this. been over a week still hearn nothing back from them.

As somewhat of an outsider, I find this all a bit odd. UD doesnt have this problem with baseball products. I dont think they have it with football products either. Occasionally there are basketball issues, but its usually the issue of a major superstar that doesnt feel like returning the sticker sheet.
