Verified Trader,
I need to vent a little about this subset in 2021-22 UD Fleer Ultra.
I was excited to see this insert announced, I love outside the box thinking like this, but I'm disappointed about the final product. I feel like it was created with minimal effort possible.
A look at the set:
The issues I have:
1. There are no hockey pictures whatsoever in the entire set. I could easily accept if they even had only a couple hockey photos so if you put the set together, you get the idea of what sport they are fans of. But nope, not one hockey related photo used. Getting a photo of a couple of these guys in a hockey jersey would have required just the smallest amount of effort.
2. No text telling us why they are hockey fans. How hard would it have been to throw together a paragraph, or even a short sentence, about the person or how the card relates to hockey. Tell me why this card is in a hockey set! Heck, even tell me they're famous for being actors on a show called Letterkenny.
3. No base set so no base set with text. This would have been the only excuse for no text/explanations on the autographs.
4. Confusing SP system and a second chance to use a hockey photo wasted. I think the SPs are just different generic photos with no indication of print run.
5. They are NOT an additional hit in the product. I bought a box and my only notable hit was a High Profile Fans autograph. If they are going to be a main part of the product, put in some effort! Had they been thrown in as an extra hit, the poor execution would have been somewhat excusable.
It's also very noticeable that they failed to include Jared Keeso in this set but I won't fault UD for that as he might not have wanted to partake. They also managed a redemption in this small set (Michelle Mylett).
I could put this entire set together, show my partner and she would have no idea what sport it was from.
I feel like this is exactly the kind of set you get when you run a hockey company in Carlsbad, CA with a bunch of people who don't give a damn about the game or hobby.
They didn't even have to rewrite the book.
This is what it looks like when you give half a damn about the cards you create (thanks Panini).
Rant over.
