As I'm down to the last 10, or so, cards left in my possession I sit back and reflect a little. It seems like ages ago now that I started collecting through eBay and forums. It opened a whole new world from buying packs and singles from the limited amount of shops in my area. In the beginning it was a bit of a competition as a player, and set collector, but it quickly evolved.

Thinking back to the early Beckett days I remember telling Curt I was going to give him a run for his money as THE Gaborik collector (foolish and impossible, I know, funny). That started a good friendship with him, and many more to follow on the boards. The thrill of the hunt was a lot of fun throughout the years, but it was really the interaction with people here and there that kept me in it for as long as it did. From working together to keep Gabby prices down on the 'Bay, to sending freebies to others to help with their sets, to people letting hard to find PC items go to help with my projects; it was all with the help of the internet. I'm very happy I stumbled upon it all.

I won't go through folks name by name, but I appreciate all the friends I made in the hobby and even the people I butted heads with. Although I gave up on it for a number of reasons, I'm sure two more good people will take my place. For all the thieves, patch swappers and eBay scammers; there are far more genuine, caring folks. I still have to stop in and check on you all every now and then. Thanks for everything.

Turning the page...my collecting obsession has not left, just took a different direction. I started learning to play guitar as a teenager, but put it down after a while because I was...well, a teenager (school, girls, partying). About the time I gave up on cards a couple years back, I decided to pick the axe back up for giggles. After buying one it started to spiral. Now I'm up to eight in the collection. I used the money from selling cards to buy and upgrade the bunch, and each are different in many ways. I'm probably not going to join a band or start touring any time soon, it's just another hobby, but I am getting better.

As I'm finding guitar forums and more good, like-minded people; I can't help but think about how limited hobbies were before the 'net. It's such a useful tool, and escape from the daily grind. I guess I just wanted to throw up this beer-infused rant to thank you all again, especially those who take their time and effort to run the forums. Keep helping each other enjoy your hobby.

Cheers!

lots of music related threads there, and some of the wittiest, dryest, sarcastic web minds you'll ever meet.....

the proceeds from my lecavalier collection went towards my ibanez and upgrading all my hockey gear. no shame in pursuing your other passions.

It's all hobbies regardless of cards or guitars. Whatever makes you happy and is a stress reliever from work or everyday life. I too have purged out some stuff that no longer interested me, and at a significant loss, to pursue another hobby of mine which is collecting watches. I've always had a half dozen watches I like to rotate wearing but now it's gone in more a collecting stage where I am up to around 30 with only about 10 in the wearing rotation.

here I'll get it started, sorry for the terrible quality photos, my phone is the suck at taking decent pictures

I'll start off with an ML I built a couple years ago, Bill Lawrence L500XL in the bridge & Duncan Stag Zebra in the neck

Heh, NECROBUMP!

Took me a while to fill the photo request, but here are some poor quality iPad shots...

Left: BC Rich Limited Edition Halloween 2000 Warlock (rumored to be 50-65 made)
I upgraded the stock BCR pickup to the Seymour Duncan EMTY Blackout. This is the Mick Thompson of Slipknot signature pickup, and it is the meanest pickup I've heard. Even playing through the clean channel on the amp it wants to distort. Drop C tuning and heavier gauge strings makes this beast very fun to chug monster riffs on.

Right: BC Rich Special X Mockingbird
Down the road I'm planning on changing out the Rockfield pickups that come stock with the Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II's. Thought it would be cool to go with the Slash signature pickup on this one, as he used to play a Mock occasionally in the GNR days. Currently in standard tuning, but I'll probably drop it down a half step when I have the pickups installed as they did in Guns.

Left: Jackson WRMG Warrior
This one comes stock with EMG pickups. 81 in the bridge & 85 in the neck, so no need to upgrade there. This is the bread and butter metal combo. I did add a push/pull killswitch to the tone knob, and a Tremol-no to the Floyd Rose bridge. I'm not really good enough for whammy bar solos, so I just locked it off. This one is tuned to D standard, sounds great. The odd shape is actually real comfortable.

Right: Jackson Dinky Reverse
This was the axe I saved up for, and regretfully sold as a teenager. Once I got back into things I had to find another. Made in the early 90's they don't surface too often anymore with the stone finish. The previous owner replaced the stock Jackson pickups with an EMG 81/85 set, and I added an EVH D-Tuna to the Floyd Rose bridge. It's set to E standard tuning, but the D-Tuna allows a quick switch to drop D without unlocking the nut and adjusting the tuners on the headstock. Neat little gadget.

Left: Epiphone Les Paul Custom
This was a floor model at a store originally. I went with Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pickups on this one, and absolutely love them. They tried to emulate the sound of Larry Dimarzio's '59 Les Paul with this set. Nails the classic rock sound of the 70's perfectly. I currently have it set up in open D tuning. Wanted to take a stab at playing slide, but it has proven to be more difficult than I expected. Eventually I'd like to add Jimmy Page wiring to it, as I've been trying to learn a bunch of Zeppelin tunes.

Right: Fender Stratocaster
It's a cheap Mexi- Strat, but I ripped all the guts out right away. I really wanted the EMG David Gilmour setup, but the price tag was as much as I pad for the guitar. After some research I found the Dragonfire knockoff prewired pickgaurd for half the cost. All three knobs are push/pull for a variety of different tones. One boosts the highs & lows while scooping the mids. Another boost the mids and drops the highs for a super fat sound. The volume pot pulled allows all three pickups to work at once. So many great single coil sounds to be had. I have this one tuned to E flat so I can get the bluesy bends easier with the longer neck scale. Hendrix & SRV did the same, but I'm a ways from attempting those tunes

...finally PRIDE and JOY...

Right: Paul Reed Smith Angelus Custom SE
The only acoustic I own, and only guitar I purchased brand new. Made in Korea, but has the same bracing and construction pattern as the $4k USA made counterpart. Sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, ebony saddle and fretboard, bone nut and saddle. When I brought it into the shop to have the neck and action adjusted the luthier said he was amazed at the quality for a foreign guitar, and it was a pleasure to work on. I have it in standard tuning with Elixir strings on it & it sounds absolutely beautiful.

Left: Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody II
My girlfriend dropped this bomb on me last Christmas, and I was absolutely blown away. Without the upgrades on the others, this would cost more than all of them put together. Heck, it's about the same value as the car I drive. I was nervous touching it at first, and my skills aren't near worthy enough to play it yet. Unbelievable. Being a completely hollow electric guitar it's light as a feather, only five pounds. The pickups are the PRS 57/08, which is their vintage sounding set. Great classic rock sound but the clean up nicely, too. Also there is a Piezo pickup underneath the bridge inside the body. Rather than running off magnets, it uses pressure within the body to create sound. It can be used alone or in unison withe the magnetic pickups on top. Super neat-o. My iPad picture doesn't really do it justice, the teal colored flamed maple front and back is absolutely gorgeous.

So there's the new addiction. I also had a 7 string for a while, but sold it. Six is challenging enough for now.
