Basketball: Dress Code Opinion!

Personally I believe that it really stinks! Sure I know why they are doing this, and it's to make everyone look as an equal and not settle for differences, but the thing that's wrong with that is that people want to see their stars as they see them. The things they wear and the way they appear when they are on the bench or even entering the arena is who they are and it's their personality, and fans come to see that, now their taking away their personality? What kind of bs is that? Now it's become boring to come early to the games to see your favorite player, because you can't see them as who they truly are anymore!

Clemens, but Dungy will do that. It's just something that we know will happen since he knows Manning has the streak going.

Baseball- Buy or Sell- The Marlins firesale of Castillo, Burnett, Lowell, and Delgado to load up on prospects

I buy this.

The Marlins are getting no fan support down in Miami. They need a new stadium and can't get that. Out with the old in with the new. Loria will more than likely move the team to Las Vegas or somewhere else I can't remember. He is unloading his payrole to save some cash. They are also trying to get rid on Pierre the Center Fielder for Henn and Proctor from Yanks. Why not rebuild your pitching with younger players. I don't even think he wants the team in Miami anyways. Move, get relocated to a better facilitly and start over with younger players and be a contender again in five or six years.

The Marlins firesale of Castillo, Burnett, Lowell, and Delgado to load up on prospects.

I'm selling this

In one week the Marlins went from contenders to possible a High priced AAA team, and with the winter meetings around the corner they are still looking to trade Pierre, possibly to the Yankees for two more prospects, among others.
Gone is the heart of the organization, Delgado, Lowell, Beckett, Castillo, and Mota all traded for mainly prospects. Jacobs, a 25-year-old rookie from the Mets, will replace Delgado at first base. Ramirez, Boston's top prospect, is expected to start at shortstop. And Sanchez (Boston) and Petit (Mets) will compete for a starting rotation spot. Now comes the fallout, Dontrelle Willis is not happy to be pitching for a team with "no loyalty towards its player". Willis made 378,000 last year and wondering whats in store for him now. He expects a big payday and soon. 6 is a magic number for the Marlins, it is the Combined major league wins for four rookies/prospects who will compete this spring for the Marlins' four rotation spots after Dontrelle Willis.

There is not a market for Baseball in Florida and with the dumping of the high profiles it will turn the Floridians away even more. There is a history after the first world series team the Marlins dumped salary and lost a large chunk of it fan base. Only after they started to spend again and put a winner on the field did even some of them come back. The Marlins had a record franchise payroll of 65 million and are looking to spend half of that starting next year(They are at 30 million before the Castillo trade).

The team announced earlier in the week that it will look to relocate after the 2007 season. Are they looking to rebuild now for the move two or three years down the road?? Portland Ore, Las Vegas and cities in New Jersey are likely targets. I feel even a new stadium will not save this franchise they are about to put on the field a poor product.

You dont build a team by trading for prospects, you build a team through the farm system, slowly mixing them in. We all know that even the best prospects fail, see guys like Brien Taylor(supposedly the greatest phenom back in the 1990s).

The guy you have to feel for is Joe Girardi, the newly hired manager is left holding the bag. Your first managerial job and you are handed a bunch of "prospects". His view was "were young but will surprise alot of people. Just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. It's just that nobody knows who you are yet." I guess you need to remain upbeat when your dealt this type of hand.

SO I am selling this, you cant expect the faithful to hang around when you are supplying an inferrior product. You have to feel for the remaining players, you cant replace the productivity of the players that the Marlins traded for.

Football- Who is your RB, if you could have any of them on your team? Shaun Alexander, LT, Larry Johnson, or Edge?

Shaun Alexander is a scoring machine, Edgerrin is the arguably the best downhill runner in the league, Larry Johnson is averaging at least 100 yds in the games starting, but Tomlinson does it all.
I'd without a doubt choose Ladainian Tomlinson for his ability to be in so many different situations and succeed. When you take a look at Tomlinson, there's not much he can't do in the NFL. While Tomlinson is 5th in the league in rushing yards and leads the league in total touchdowns, he also has one less catch than Randy Moss this year, and has thrown for the same amount of TD passes as Brooks Bollinger. This guy is the triple threat, he can run pass and throw without any troubles. In fact, Tomlinson has caught more td passes than Tony Gonzalez this year. His consistency says it all as he has scored at least one TD in all but one game and he has scored multiple in more than half of them. It's hard to choose against him when all he does is score in any way possible. Tell me what he can't do or hasn't done for the San Diego Chargers and then we'll talk.

Question#2
How Will the White Sox do next year?
I think the White Sox will win the Central Division next year with Cleveland pushing them all the way. The White Sox will win their first round but will lost in the second round of the play-offs. 1st. The White Sox will not be sneaking up on anyone this coming season, no one expected the White Sox to even win the Division last year, I recall and even thinking myself that the White Sox will fall apart like they have done the past few seasons. Every team in baseball will use the White Sox as a measuring stick, if we can beat the World Champs then we must be pretty good team. The White Sox will have very few nights where they will be able to relax this coming summer. A 2nd factor is the White Sox were by no means the best team in baseball last season, and if you recall the White Sox almost totally melted the division away to Cleveland, as the Indians were closing the gap on the White Sox quickly, however once the playoffs started there was no hotter team out there as in the White Sox, loosing one game in the play-offs. I just don't see the White Sox being able to go through the play-offs like they did last year. A 3rd factor is we never really saw the White Sox face any real pressure in the playoffs, even when teams are supposed to win a series there is usually pressure within the series or at some point in the playoffs that a team will face. I have to say only losing one game in the playoffs (a credit to the White Sox) might have hurt them in some ways as they have not fully been tested to the pressure of facing elimination or falling behind in a series. Finally a 4th factor is that since 1980 baseball has been the hardest sport in which to repeat as champions. Basketball has seen the Celtics in the 1980's, the Lakers x2 in the 80's and Shaq years, Pistons in late 80's and early 90's, and who could forget the runs of three in a row by the Bulls. Hockey has seen the Islanders win four in a row, while the Penguins repeated in early 90's and did the Red Wings in the mid 90's, Oilers had a nice run in the mid 80's. Football too has seen a repeats teams in the Patriots, 49'ers, Broncos, and Cowboys. While baseball has only had two repeats in the Blue Jays of the early 90's and the Yankees in the late 90's.
Why I think they will win the division and win the first round of the playoffs, 1st the experience factor of going through the playoffs, 2nd factor is a huge pick up in trading for Jim Thome, 3rd factor is the resigning of Paul Konerko, this guy has put up huge numbers the past two seasons and Jim Thome could not alone replace Paul in the line up, resigning Paul was a must for the White Sox. 4th factor is the White Sox pitching staff in starters of Jose Contreras, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, Orlando Hernandez and Mark Buehrle, they might not be the best in the league but as a staff that is hard to beat, and will hold the White Sox in games till the Sox can get to closer Bobby Lights out Jenks. A 5th factor is that the White Sox have a great meld of both youth and experience, they are not over loaded in older players or younger players, the Sox feature veterans like World Series MVP Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, Fredy Garcia, Jon Garland, Mark Buehrle, Jose Contreras, and Orlando Hernandez, while also maintain youth with Bobby Jenks a rookie last year, Joe Crede who has only been in Chicago a short time, Tadahito Iguchi who is older but still learning the game played in the States, and highly touted rookie outfielder Brian Anderson. The White Sox have a decent enough minor league system that if some of the younger guys falter or should the Sox experience injuries they can trade guys like outfielder Joe Borchard, pitching prospects Archie Munoz and Jon Adkins or highly thought of Brandon McCarthy. Finally a 6th factor the White Sox will repeat as Central Division champions is the manager Ozzie Guillen who has taking a under achieving team before Ozzie arrived and put the White Sox over the hump, Ozzie is great with his players and you can tell they respond well to him by there actions both during games and after the games. When it is all said and done I see the White Sox winning the Central and first round of playoffs but I see the Sox having a hard time getting out of the AL and going to the World Series the road will be much tougher with every team aiming at the White Sox all year long.

I have to sell on this one.

Yeah one can argue that there has not been real good fan support but if you sell off the team is that going to get more fans to come to the game? If you trade off any chance of winning that certainly won't motivate the fans to come out to the games. Another reason is I don't buy this is that if the Marlins are trying to get younger then why would you trade and let go two of your younger and best pitchers in Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett, and players in their prime Mike Lowell, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Delgado. As far as I can ever remember in almost ever case a team that going to be sold will drop their payroll I have heard nothing to suggest that Jeffrey Loria is thinking of selling the team. Another point I don't buy this is that the Marlins have been through two times before, right after the 1997 Championship the team was taken apart, and then again right before Jeffrey Loria the current owner was given the team by Major League baseball for his franchise in Montreal. The fans are now being asked to go through a third rebuilding in less then ten years. If the Marlins ownership wants me to buy this they should pack up and move, the fans are saying we are not going to support you then move the team as it is to a new town. Finally I don't buy this for the reason stock pilling rookies is a risky business, the pay-offs can be great but also can set a franchise back if those trades don't work out. Henley Ramirez was rated as one of the Red Sox top players in their system but how many people Ruben Rivera playing for the Padres, or Drew Henson playing for the Reds both huge prospects that never panned out. Having said all this I have to say as frustrating as it is to follow my team being a Marlins fan is like riding the world's biggest roller coaster, championships in 97 and 03, with down years before in between and after. There are some pieces to build around in Miguel Cabrera but if he is traded then I would say the Marlins are done. Finally my biggest point as to why I don't buy this is why would the ownership and GM less then a year ago go out and make a huge free agent signing in Carlos Delgado? It does not add up if you ask me and now less then a year later ownership decides hey lets trade away any chance of winning!!! I just don't buy the Marlins concept of selling off and they won't be able to get me to buy into it. Who is next Dontrell Willis, Miguel Cabrera, or Juan Pierre?

BKB- Dress Code Opinion.
I totally disagree with the basis behind the Dress Code. This isn't an office job. These guys are playing basketball for a living not teaching the youth of America geometry. Dirk Nowitzki is the same guy when he walks to the arena in a t-shirt and jeans as he is when he is wearing suit jackets and slacks. No children are going to think more of him because he is dressed up. Like Paul Pierce said you can still be a bad human being in a suit. The NBA should go a different root if trying to clean up the game.

I do not really like the new NBA Dress code. Aren't these jobs for these players dream jobs? It is retarded to even think of one to begin with. These players work hard enough and they do not need to be drilled around what to wear off the court. It is highly ridiculous to entangle with players personal lives in their preference of clothing.

Round 4 Questions (2 days to get your answers in):

Baseball- Where will Barry Zito be playing in 2006?

Basketball- Who will win comeback player of the year?

Football- USC or Texas?

If you were down to your last $100.00 dollars and could bet it to make $100,000.00 which team would you put your money on? Think about that one, if you lose you are out of money.

I will take USC to win the game although I will be rooting for Texas. Here is why USC will win. Do you believe in Sports Illustrated jinx? Guess who on the front cover of this week's issue? Yup you are right it is Vince Young heisman hopeful, I believe in the Sports Illustrated jinx is this is just one of several examples I will present in why USC will win the Rose Bowl.
The experts have USC winning by 6 and half points. How can you go against Las Vegas, they know what they are talking about.
With USC winning the last two National Championships and with returning players Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, USC has a edge of experience in the National Title game at the Rose Bowl.
Another reason USC will win rumors are that many NFL teams will be going after Pete Carrol as a head football coach next year. Can anyone even name Texas head coach? Coach nod for the game goes to the Trojans.
Reggie Bush is not only perhaps the best running back in College but Reggie also returns kicks, and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Look for USC to get the ball in Bush's hands as much as they can. If you watched Bush leap over the UCLA defender this past Saturday you saw one heck of a play by #5, and that play will land him the Heisman Trophy.
Matt Leinart will not be left out in USC drive for a three peat. Matt would have been the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. Matt is able to put the ball into his recievers hands for big plays, and is use to the pressure of having led the Trojans to two previous National Titles. Throw in Matt not only has a great player to hand the ball off to but Matt can also throw the ball to Biletnikoff candidate Dwayne Jarrett.
USC has more players in the running for the Heisman trophy (two) as top College player then does Texas (one). The Trojans also have Dwayne Jarrett as a Fred Biletnikoff award finalist.
USC has a 33 game winning streak and once they win vs. Texas it will be there 34 straight wins and their third straight National Title.
Finally the biggest reason USC will win the National Title game is simple, it is a home game for the Trojans, Texas will be well represented at the game but even with that said they will face a USC crowd on the USC turf.

Final score USC 34 Texas 32 My $100.00 is on USC. Would you bet against USC?

USC or Texas

Remember when everyone bashed the BCS, well without the BCS this game would never have happened. Each team would be heading to bowls playing different opponents.
You have the preseason #1 playing the preseason #2, who ended up after the season staying the #1 and #2 teams in the poll.
The Trojans, 7 point favorites, will extend their 34-game winning streak with an unprecedented third consecutive national title. The reason is having a proven leader like Matt Leinart and the likely Heisman winner Reggie Bush. Bush ended up with 1658 yards while averaging 8.9 yards per carry. Bush also can catch the ball out of the backfield averaging 12.8 yrds per catch. The Trojans rank 1st in the country averging 580 yards per game and will be able to move the ball on a Texas Defense. A few weeks back, A team that ended up 5-6 Texas A&M ran all over the Texas defense for 277 yards rushing. The key to any game is the rushing game and controlling the clock and Bush gives USC the edge in this game. Leinart's abilities (3450 yrds passing) do not allow the Texas defense stack the line to stop the rush. USC is not a one dimentional team in the least. Pete Carroll wins another title and continues the dynasty.
This will be one of the best games in recent memory with USC coming out on top 49-31.

USC

I think USC wins this game and wins it big. I don't think any team can stop Bush let alone Leinart. I think Leinart has only lost one game in his college career. Texas's defense may be able to control the passing game but with Bush or LenDale White is the back field or in the slot you are not going to stop. All the talk is about Bush and Lienart. Don'f forget about LenDale White. He has rushed for over a 1000 yards and is a big key in the USC offense. Dwayne Jarrett the wide out has had a good year as well with over 1000 yards receiving and 15 or so TDs. I don't follow USC or Texas but these are the players from USC that I can name. The only one from Texas is Young. I don't think Texas's defense will be ready for the USC offense. I think USC will come out and make Texas nervous. USC three in a row.

USC

For anyone that says Texas has the edge in this game going into this championship game needs to think again.
Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush both in their last college games, I don't think they're losing.
To begin with, USC has much more experience than Texas as they are playing with Leinart and Bush as well as many others who both played in a national championship last year and won. And as well as Reggie Bush in the backfield, you have Lendale White who OH has 30 more total points than Reggie Bush this year. They have the ultimate two-headed monster in their running game, nobody has stopped them this year, and the Longhorns even with as good a defense as they possess, they allow 125 rush yards per game.
Once USC establishes their rushing game, they will be able to create alot of confusion and dismay in the Texas defense. In no way shape or form is this USC team one dimensional so they will be able to create big plays with an effective play action and it will just go downhill there for Texas.
USC's Offense > Texas' Defense
And that is what this game will be about.

Round 5 Questions:

Baseball- Will Toronto be able to contend in the AL East with the new acquisition of AJ Burnett and the recent acquisition of BJ Ryan?

Basketball- Who will be the last NCAA team dancing in March?

Football #1- Who should Norv Turner start. Kerry Collins or Marques Tuiasosopo?

Football #2- Who will win the AFC West?

Who will win the AFC West?

As close as the race is now, it won't stay that way for long.
Let's take a look at each of the team's remaining games:

Denver: Baltimore, Buffalo, Oakland, @San Diego
San Diego: Miami, @Indy, @KC, Denver
Kansas City: @Dallas, @Giants, San Diego, Cincinnati
And the Standings:
Denver 9-3
San Diego 8-4
Kansas City 8-4

Since KC and San Diego are back a game, they are hurt majorly. Looking at KC's remaning schedule compared to Denver's, they would have to win out and have Denver lose a game. Denver is certainly not losing to Baltimore, Buffalo or Oakland and KC is not going to go to Dallas, New York and then face San Diego and sweep the three. They may take one or even two if they play well, but it won't be enough with the competition they are facing. Therefore, you can take Kansas City out of the mix.
This puts us down to San Diego and Denver. Now this could come down to the last game of the season, but unfortunately it will be over by then. As I said before, there is no way Denver loses to Baltimore Buffalo or Oakland which improves them to 12-3. In order for San Diego to be able to legitimize that last game of the season, they'd have to beat Miami at home, get a victory at Indy and at Kansas City. And while you may view Miami as an easy win, they are not. They still have a shot to win their division and they have the talent to put some pressure on this Chargers team. Still, let's say they beat Miami. Then they next face the Colts at Indy, I don't think so. When Indy may be trying to go for the undefeated season still and make sure they secure home-field advantage. But Still, let's even say they win that. They next go to Kansas City and with the way the Chiefs have been playing lately, and with the way they play at home, the Chargers won't come on top and thus will be eliminated whether it be vs. Indy or vs. San Diego.

Although San Diego (and even Kansas City) may be the more attractive team to choose as the division winner, their remaining games compared to Denver prevents their chance from winning that division and trying to compete for Super Bowl 40.
