Hobby Pet Peeves

My pet peeve would be people who say they are interested in a card but have nothing even close to the same BV to trade for it?!?! It's not just me either! I read on all boards from people who say "look at my trade page" and I normally do also to see if there's anything cool on it and there's nothing but low end cards! If you don't have the goods to trade for a card zip it!!
Another peeve is when people "overvalue" what they have for trade! I call it the I have gold you have nothing syndrom! A simple checking of closed auctions on ebay will give you a decent indication of what the card is worth (or close to being worth) cash wise.

all my cards I recieve go into new top loaders and penny sleaves as if they have been abused and I make them anew. Is it ok to fold the tape over as a crease so it peals easier ? All my gunked up top loaders are used for in trades and sales and I get them in return the same way. Tape on the top helps prevent the card from exiting the loader and the team bag does the same, but there is more movement.

My pet peeve ? People at card shows trying to buy or trade with you when you really know they just want to flip the card and low ball you in the process. At shows in North Carolina that I have set up at they get allerted as if you were in a jungle and the monkeys start making noises to let you know. That and watching them take notes is funny also. The same at Detroit shows also on that one. More entertaining than a peeve though. You can always do the ebay prices since thats where they are off to.

a couple of pet peeves here. the tape thing is a really big nuisance for me, but that topic has already been mentioned. team back and toploaders will suffice.

another issue that has been mentioned, but i would like to explain it further. in trading there should be a certain kind of ethics. when you inquire about a card, communication should continue until the trade is finalized or falls through.

it gets annoying when you think a deal is near and then the person just disappears. it's happened to me a couple of times here, but in most cases people do reply...eventually. it doesn't take a lot to say you were busy and to just be patient.

tradelists with junk...this jts gets annoying..my wants are pretty specific and when i go look at a list and then see nothing but crap, then it's just a waste of my time. again its common ethics to NOT trade a load of useless stuff for a high end card, but some people just don't understand that concept..

people that never reply...this happens when i show interest in a card..sure, usually the card goes up on the bay or something, but a simple email saying that it's not for trade shows a more personal touch. not a big deal, but would be nice.

1/1 cards in general. For those of us who are "completists", nothing rankles me more than knowing that there are cards out there I'll never be able to add to my collection (tho I DO have several Osgood 1/1s right now, and would buy whatever other ones I could find). I appreciate a good chase and all, but c'mon card makers..

The tape thing is a huge peeve for me. It doesn't take more than two seconds to make a little flap on the tape to make it easier to pull off. Also if you purchase name brand tape Scotch tape it comes off without leaving any resedue.

But my number one pet peeve is UD Customer service. Where are all of our Draft redemption cards? Where are all the cards that are "In stock, item will be shipped soon." cards that have been at this level for about three months. I get an email response back from someone when they are dealing with the problem, but as soon as they believe the problem is resolved...ZIP NADDA NOTHING.

I hate when you post you are looking for something and someone posts to say they are something completely different. Like if I post a specific list of wants and someone comes by and posts that they have something else for trade. If I was looking for your card it would be in my wantlist. That happens all the time to me.

the wantlist problem is a common thing when you have something that someone else really wants and they'll do whatever they can to get it. the funny thing with all these problems is that they would most likely be rectified if it was only mature adults (people over the age of 18) took part in the hobby.

i am more than aware that older ladies and gents can be annoying as well, but looks like for the most part the traders people are having issues with are little children. i even had someone tell me that some kid imed him on msn asking for FREE cards. ya, right!
