how should one touches fit

In regards to one touch magnetics, how tightly should a card fit? Should the card have room so that it moves just a tiny bit in the case or should it fit very tightly with no room to move?

To me.... a card should just drop right in. with a little wiggle room
My last shanahan auto i just got the other day..
will not fit in a one touch. and i will be damned if im pressing it in there.
if that happened i would never get it out. and most like it will damage the card.
so it will live its life in a top loader unfortunately

When I used them (I don't any more because they tend to damage Chrome cards), I would buy them a little big so there's room between the cover and the card (ie, if I needed a 35pt, I would buy a 55pt).

I've seen people put them in tight fitting mags and I cringe being reminded of the old screwdowns that has destroyed people's cards when removing them after a few years.

I've had cards stick to the inner face of the one-touch. The front face of the card actually sticks so hard that it peels some of the printing ink away when you try to get it off. The only one-touches in my collection now are the ones that are sealed by the manufacturer (Splendor, Leaf Ultimate, etc).

My rule of thumb has always been:

high value inserts and parallels and auto's of same thickness - 55 pt
slightly thicker cards (jerseys, ultimate auto's, etc.) - 100 pt.
Cup base, patches and auto's - 135 pt.

If my Cup cards are a bit bigger due to the patch thickness or cards like the first year Acetate auto's..things like that, then go with the next size up which is usually 180 pt.

This guideline has always served me well.
Hope this helps :)

Which company do you prefer for magnetic one touches?

Ultra Pro.

Can I ask why?

Each have their merits!

Ultra Pro readily available in Canada - made in Taiwan

Pro Mold has different sizes and greater recess area for undercut (SPA RC AU / Authentic Moments AU) - Exclusive / made in USA

BCW, only one that I know that makes a magnetic bigger than 360pt (380pt)
Some The Cup cards, you need to use 25 count cases. It looks cheap with a $400 card!

What do you mean by "undercut"?

I have seen a couple YouTube videos on this. Is it true that 1- the Ultra Pro has a frosted look? and 2- does the Pro-Mold have a stronger magnet?

This is all helpful. I think most people would say Ultra Pro is the most popular and common, but the other companies have their perks, as very well pointed out here. I have a few Pro Mold for the “undercut” reason. I didn’t know BCW made a larger case, might have to get one of those since I have a Cup card that just barely doesn’t fit in an Ultra Pro 360.

EDIT: Do you know where the BCW 380 can be found? Can’t find it online anywhere.

Taking the advice of another member, I am starting this thread for all my questions because, boy, do I have many questions. Hope this will work out better without me cluttering up the main page.

The cards are ever-so-slightly larger than they should be, which means they cannot fit into an Ultra Pro one touch. The Pro Mold cases have a slightly taller area for the card to fit in, so the Pro Mold cases can actually hold some cards that Ultra Pro one touches cannot. I have 3-4 cards like this.

Ultra Pro is frosted around the outside, but not over the card at all, just the edges and top and bottom.

When laying a card in a one touch magnetic, should the card “sink” in a little bit or should it be even with the magnetic?

I make sure all my cards are below the level of the recessed area. This ensures the case isn’t too tight and should prevent the front or back of the card from adhering to the case. If the card sticks to the case it could be severely damaged when you try to remove it.
