I am on the fence though with the next one: Is it Francis or Stevens?:confused:

VERY tough call. Stevens was the backbone of the Devils Cup runs with Brodeur and one of the most intimidating players ever to lace em up.

Francis was one of the most underrated players ever.

Arrrrggggh, tough call but I'll give the nod to Stevens.

Not sure after that.
 
I dont understand why so many guys are not picking Francis as a lock. The guy is 4th all time in scoring. He has played his entire career under the radar and it would be a shame if he were to miss out on the first ballot by slipping under the radar again.

To garner over 1700 points and not be considered first ballot material just doesnt make sense.

Messier and Francis are in for sure. Now if they decide to add another player then it will be Stevens. The other guys will have to wait.
 
If Larionov doesn't get in I'll be mad :D This is still Hockey not NHL HOF. Otherwise Messier and Francis are in.

Messier, Francis, and Larionov for sure. The rest are question marks for this year but Dino definitely deserves to be remembered sooner or later.
 
Jaywing I agree with you that Francis' career stats are a reflection of longevity more than superstardom. He averaged 24 goals a season for his career, hardly remarkable. His 4 All Star appearances pale in comparison to Stevens' 14. Francis won 2 Cups, the first afrter playing in only 14 regular season games with Pittsburgh, the second after contributing only 21 goals the following year.

Stevens was awarded to the Devils as compensation from St Louis when they signed Brendan Shanahan. The NHL recognized way back then that Stevens was a franchise type player.

The Devils are not Brodeur's team, they are Lou Lamoriello's team. Lou will tell you that Steven's was the key to that team. Wikipedia describes Stevens "He is generally regarded as one of the best "stay-at-home" defencemen to ever play in the NHL.

Francis will have his day in the sun, as he deserves. However anyone who has ever seen Stevens play on a regular basis recognizes that they saw one of the greats.

Sounded good till you quoted wikipedia. As a high school teacher you just lost all credibility ;)
 
Adam Oates deserved to have been put in. One of the greatest passers of all time. Most likely second to Gretzky in the 80's and 90's. Larionov didn't have that long of an NHL career, so he might have to wait awhile. Lemieux is another long shot, since his overall numbers don't compare with others on the list. But he did win all those Cups.
