So, I had a look at the stat leaders this morning. I noticed something:
2 players on a pace to realistically hit 60 goals (McDavid, Pastrnak)
9 players on pace for at least 50 goals (anyone with more than 27 goals as of today)
8-16 players with a realistic shot at 100 points on the season. (depends on GP and your cutoff/allowances)

Reminiscent of an earlier era. Thoughts?

McDavid has 40 goals in 48 games. His previous best was 44 in 80 games.

And a few months ago i was considering selling my BGS 9.5 YG of his because… what else did he really have to achieve besides a Cup? Welp, Connor, thanks for giving me a reason to hang on to it

I've been thinking about this since you posted it up... it's awesome that scoring is up. I just took a quick look at the top 10 goal scorers, and 9 of the 10 (Jason Robertson being the outlier) are all scoring at least 2% higher than their career shooting average. I wonder if there is a correlation between the current power play set ups, the rise of the one-timer as a weapon amongst many and not just a select few, and the long term effects of taking out the clutching and slashing...

Whatever it is, bring it on.

I wonder how well it correlates with the other thing we talked about... ;)

I think that goaltending dilusion may be at least partially responsible but not in a way that you may think. The pool itself hasn’t really diluted since many of the backups are now shining in starter roles and many of the starters are still great. The rc crops that have started or played have been pretty decent, also. You really won’t see the stats being reflected on the sheets…but pulling goalie has been an issue. Most of the time a team is down by 1, the losing team is pulling the goalie, many times letting up a EN in the process…low and behold one more goal to the tally. The other night, Calgary (?) pulled their tender with nearly 10 minutes left in the 3rd. Did it help? Nope. Was there an EN, two, I think. Did they score with man advantage? Yep, 1 goal.

There was a time that if you were down by a goal, you’d pull the goalie and rush for maybe 2 minutes at the end. Now it is the same, but for 4 minutes and when you’re down by 2. Yes the teams have gotten better, but seriously, one mistake, tipped pass, and you are back at square one and putting your goalie back in net to finish the game with a definite loss.

Is there a site that keep the stats of players that have an EN?
