Honest Review of MNT Grading

I recently sent in 15 cards for grading. Some returned sleeved, others without. The wavy inner sleeve is a HUGE issue on a few of them and really detracts from the overall appeal. I have had them crack and reslab for me before and they did a better job but wow, Quality control is not very good. I will post some pics for reference tomorrow. I would love to use then more but this is a deal breaker for me.

Has anyone here used MNT grading services?

Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of sending a few Lafreniere YGs for grading with MNT. Anyone have experience with them? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Don’t.

Go on FB and read all of the horror stories from these guys. There’s one in a big hockey group where one guy paid $70 total (shipping and insurance) to grade an OPC Lemieux RC (a total banger copy) and it came back as “trimmed” BUT SLABBED with “trimmed” on the label. All four sides had the OPC cut. They got shredded in that post.

If you want to send to PSA, text me and I’ll help you out. Don’t spend your good money after bad.

If you are solely looking to maximize your early sales of LAF by having the first slabbed & graded cards to market, MNT is a great choice. You will have the cards back within a few weeks, as opposed to a few months. Or even faster if you go with the 2 day service for $29.

It comes down to if you think selling a MNT 9.5 will earn you more than ~$40 compared to selling raw in the early days after release.

Otherwise, I would stick with PSA/BGS

This is exactly what I was thinking which is why I thought of MNT as an option.

I personally know the story owner. He is a great guy. Their are positives and negatives with MNT. The positives are their turn around time and that their is only one grader. One grader means more of a consistency. The negative is that he is very harsh with his grading. Meaning that he grades pretty low compared to other companies. Take that as you will but for him being more honest about a grade it will lower the score which in turn will lower the value. Plus for resale MNT is not up there with BGS or PSA with the main reason that they are a Canadian company and very few people in the USA have even heard of MNT. Their cases look great.

If you pull a Lafreniere and you are pretty sure that it would be a 9.5 then yes you are going to maximize your resale value. If it comes back as a 9 then you probably are only going get the raw going rate.

Trimmers have been putting rough cuts on OPC cards for at least 10 years. And if a key hobby card like that made it's way to MNT, it wouldn't be that far a stretch to believe it was trimmed.

To the OP - I don't any point in getting a card slabbed by any company other the PSA, BGS or SGC. I am totally turned off by grading, so don't even submit to the aforementioned. But MNT would be throwing good money after bad.

Yea if you want a quick flip on a Laf YG then just pony up to PSA or BGS with a quicker service level. Any other grading company you are leaving money on the table (if thats your goal).

If its to PC then use whoever you want.

There is group submission outfits that only take a few days to get stuff back from PSA.

I submit to MNT through my store. Our experiences have been positive, aside from some people grumbling about the grading being tougher than Beckett.

I would agree that if you have a crazy high-dollar card, your best bet is to use PSA or Beckett for maximum resale value. For everything else, though, I think you really have to weigh the amount of time it will take you to get your cards back - it could make a huge difference.

The only thing that bothers me about MNT is the sleeve rippling inside the case. If they solved that problem I would be using them for PC cards and possibly for resale.

Insightful review, thanks! And just FYI, MNT's website says their label printer needs to be replaced, so expect delays on returns until they can get a new one. (The page is not dated.)

I received my cards from MNT today. I am pleased with their service. It took a little longer than expected due to the label printer issues but they sent me a coupon for a free 6-day grading service. I will say that they seem to be more strict on their grades than Beckett which isn't a bad thing. I'll likely use their services again in the future.

Did you go with the inner sleeves? How did they turn out?
