So I havent been on here is about a week I think.
Anyway, the reason why.....my place got broken into. Took my computer, bunch of dvds some other random stuff, and my hockey cards.
Thank god they didnt find my stuff that wasnt for trade.

But they did get pretty much all my traders(they were in a box beside my computer) So they got pretty much everything in my bucket (avs jerseys, mixed autos and game used stuff)

This friggen sucks im so pissed. All my dam traders gone. Lots of good DVDs gone. My computer GONE (although they disconnected my external harddrive with all the stuff i need on it)

So if anyone in the GTA comes across someone selling a bunch of stuff (check my bucket under game used and autos and AVS PC > jerseys) that I have been offering for sale/trade could you let me know?
There werent any big ticket cards, so I think I may be SOL.

I would be on a man hunt if they got my patrick roy pc of over 640+ different roy cards, so I guess its not all that bad?

Sorry for the rant.

Jeff

Damn brother that sucks. Just reading you story made me look around and go crap I need to put my PC cards away and get an alarm system or a Pitbull.

Geez... really sucks to hear about something like this. You should feel secure in your home and not feel like you have to bar your windows, deadbolt your door...twice, etc. Is insurance of any help with this?

We just found marks/dents in my parents' basement door. Seems like someone wanted to crowbar their way in. It peeves me a LOT when, you know, with all the time some people take to scheme up something like this, they could WORK instead? IMO St. John's is getting bad with this in that it's happening more often than it ever should. More oil & gas for the province means more crime. More money in some pockets means that there'll be people who feel they're owned it, but not have to work for it. Mini-rant aside, stash your pc items away!

All my pc items were in a box that was in a box in a box ina closet type deal. Hell After the first 2 boes I get tired of opening them and give up most times.

We are still talking with the insurance company and stuff. Hopefully something good happens.

I hear ya Tina

The city is getting worse ! I guess it's a lesson to all to hide your prized collection. You would be surprised on what can be taken

Sorry for your loss...it sucks!!!! It could have been worse

I keep the pc tucked away nice and safe.

And I will be getting a dog. A big one.

Sorry about your loss, but I am very happy to hear that your PC is still intact!!

Unfortunately, there are more and more stories like this. I have also been a victim of theives, many years ago.

I now rent 2 safety deposit boxes ( medium size ) at my bank. The large ones are always taken. All my high end cards, will, jewellery, kids bonds, legal documents, etc, etc. are stored there. I may be paranoid but the couple hundred a year is worth my peace of mind. I know first hand the feeling that you've been somehow violated and being ***** angry is normal.

Other ideas are to put the high end cards somewhere that no one would bother looking. Kids room. Back top shelf kitchen cupboards. False floor. Attic if stored and sealed properly. In a box marked underwear or baby stuff. These are just ideas, I'm sure everyone has a few of their own.

It's better to take the time and spend the money to protect the years and money invested, just in case this happens.

I'm glad they didn't get you Roy cards and hopefully the police get lucky or a HI member sees a card shown in you bucket at a show, shop or ebay.

That sucks. I can't imagine how that feels. I'm pretty lucky. There are benefits to my living in the middle of nowhere. My nosy neighbors would turn them in before they got past the storm door. Neighborhood watch? Bah! Neighborhood militia, more like it.

BTW, pm me your address too, Jeff. I'd like to join manthis is getting you a few traders to get the bucket rolling again. I am not as of yet independently wealthy, so there won't be anything too amazing, but there are a few cards I have that I'd like to contribute.

PM sent

Maybe this thread could turn into a donate to me thread? haha jokes

Seriously though. Lets turn this thread into how to protect your cards from theft. What are some of the things you guys do to hide or protect them.

Some ideas others already tossed out.

Safety Deposit boxes at the bank.
Disguising the box they are kept in (babys clothes, underwear, etc..)
Think someone mentioned a dog.
I keep mine in a box thats in a box and so on and so on (my roy pc and my vintage stuff)

Anyone else have some ideas?

I am thinking that I may be able to get my hands on a big stand up file cabinet type thing. Thats locked and I believe fire proof as well, one of those you see i office building that hold important documents.

Jeff

Really sorry to hear about that. Glad your PC is intact! I don't have too much of high end value to worry about, but if I did, I'd keep my most valuable stuff stashed in the bank's safety box or a locked safe or something. I'm not in a place where I can help you out much, but if you PM me, I'd be happy to at least send a couple of ok cards your way.

I used to have a safety deposit box at the bank to keep my Gretzky RCs in, and then I realized I hadn't seen them in five years...how much fun is that? There's no point in having them if you can't see them from time to time, imo. So that ended.

On top of my army of nosey neighbours, I also keep my expensive cards locked up in a safe at home. It's a big old one that is fire resistant and virtually unmoveable, unless there are four guys grunting away for about an hour...I use it because it came with the house (the previous owners didn't want to move it out, so I said I'd take it).
