How did you get into the Hobby???

I used to collect baseball cards as a kid, then stopped for years. Then, I became a Wild fan, one day searched for Gaborik Autograph on ebay in 05-06, and here I am. Just wanting to hear some other stories..........
 
I didn't get started till the wild came to town too. Than I worked at a hobby shop and really got into it. Now I maily collect anything that looks nice to me. Here's to Minny winning the cup this year:beer:

Started collecting as a kid, 89-90, cause some of my friends collected and I thought it was cool. Collected all the way up to about 95-06 before I got bored and gave up/grew out of the hobby. Fast forward to the end of 02-03, I had some friends that collected again and when 03-04 started to come out I very slowly decided I wanted to collect Iginla. Back then I was buying his autos for sometimes under $5!

Good story, I stopped collecting right when they were going crazy with inserts, and never knew about autos, GU until I did my ebay search and was amazed!
 
I used to collect soccer cards as a kid in England. Fast forward to being a British soldier in Suffield in the early 90's, watched the Tigers play and picked up a pack of the team cards that were for sale in the foyer. I still have them. Started watching the NHL on TV and saw footage of Bob Probert/Troy Crowder 1 & 2 - went to a hobby shop in the town and bought all his Probert cards - he got more and more for me I must have 'em all. I carried on through eBay and when the Probert stuff slowed down concentrated on enforcer cards, sets/subsets etc. And here I am today - still going strong.
 
I got into it in the mid '90s when my dad and his best friend would do the occasional box bust. I was into Forsberg then, so they would give me whatever they pulled of him. I got really into it when I moved to Ohio and met my best friend. When he moved, I fell out of it.

In 2005-06, I got back into it heavily and have been at it since.
 
Used to collect baseball cards as a kid growing up in Alabama. Didn't have any hockey access until I was in college and would watch games when they were on. When my wife and I first met, she was living in Michigan and our first date was going to the Joe to see the Wings and Sabres. The next weekend I was at a Target and bought a few backs of 02-03 UD series 1 and 2. Haven't stopped since and looking forward to going to tomorrow night's Wings/Kings game at Staples Center with my lovely wife.

I quit smoking crack in 00-01 and I needed to find something just as addictive to take it's place, so I picked up hockey cards.
 
started in 79 was after the bubblegum when i was 4:) stuck with it buying massive amounts till 91 got out. then rolls around 04 when got sick in the hospital, and a friend brought me a box to pass some time. haven't looked back since

as a kid, this probably what happened...
bro collected cards and so I copied him. Dad would bring cards for us as well. My best friend at the time collected cards along with his dad. They bought me stuff for birthdays and took me to shows.

Then it slowed down and when years later, I got a job and got back into it. I stopped for a year(what are the odds, the year, Nash cards came out). Went back to the shop. Bought a pack and got hooked onto it again.
 
I'm not going to lie... Pro Set got me into collecting. I was really sick as a kid and the nurses or someone gave me pro set cards to keep me happy. Once I got out, I used to only buy mcdonald's cards until one day I opened a Paul Kariya jersey card in my McDonald's pack (early 2000). That was when I realized the possibilities... But then I got into university and stopped until recently when the Montreal Canadiens started having rookies I liked. (No offense to Higgins, Ryder, Latendresses, Perezhogin, Jason Ward, Marcel Hossa, etc. etc.) Now I just bust packs for fun, keep the Habs and whatever else looks cool, and try to trade the rest.
 
some new friends collected and it got me interested.

Been doing it off and on since about '91. First pack I bought was Proset series 1.
 
I used to collect cards from every sport in the glorious late 80's early 90's during my formative years. Quit collecting from about 94-02. Then a good friend of mine introduced me to Kovalchuk and it all ended there.

Ended/Started, I guess it depends on how you look at it huh? lol
 
I've been buying hockey cards since 1979 ("Wayne who?") and started collecting (top loaders, etc) since 1988. My gym teacher/baseball coach collected and showed us his collection one day. I was hooked. 1989 - 1993 was peaking for cards and everyone was into it then. I've been going ever since.
