How do I avoid being scammed here.

So, I'm selling a high end item (approx. 500 USD) to a person on ebay that has a new account and 0 feedback.

Assuming he pays and it is through paypal, how do I avoid the possibility of him saying he didn't receive it and filing a chargeback?

Do I have to send it registered mail with signature confirmation? And how do I avoid anything else that may happen?

This is my first HUGE high end sale and I want to make sure I am safe on my end.

I believe PayPal changed their rules, so a confirmed addy is no longer required, as long as the card is shipped to the address listed on the account.

I was advised on the phone that it only applies to US account holders. Canadian accounts were still subject to the previous guidelines.

Not if you're a PowerSeller, just FYI. I know I can do unconfirmed anywhere worldwide that PayPal is, and I'm ok (still has to be an acceptable tracking form though).

That is quite illegal as well. You must be able to provide proof of reasonable value (ebay invoice or the like). A claim can be completely waived by Canadapost if they deem the insured value to be bogus.

They've removed the actual Confirmed Address requirement HOWEVER the item still has to show Eligible for Seller Protection on the payment screen. If the address is not confirmed it will show as being Ineligible and you are not covered - Power Seller or not. They've changed the wording but the overall scope is still the same.

paypal can never fully cover you. Even with proof they can still find in favor of the buyer.

Best way, get the payment, transfer all funds to yourbank account right away and ship(tracking, insurance etc...) it out once the payment is transfered. Will be shipped out a few days late but its safer for you that way.

If he files a charge back, paypal CANT take any money from you that way. Only put your account into the negative.
Sure you wont be able to use the account, but at least you wont be out the card and money.

^^^ You can't get away like that. Once your account is in negative balance, Paypal will forward the amount to a collection agency and your credit history will be affected. Just make sure the item is shipped Registered Mail/Xpresspost with signature confirmation and insurance.

Also the math doesn't work here, there is still the original payment.

So he gets his payment back, and you get 2x value in insurance claims?

Not sure why so many people are encouraging him to scam PayPal/Canada Post...just send Registered/Insured and hope for the best. I would recommend requiring a certain feedback level or something along those lines for next time.

Also, it sounds to me like you might have a bad gut feeling about this guy. I have to say that my gut is 99.9999% of the time right, even if I don't listen to it.
