How do you get rid of you base cards?

If I have close to a complete set, I will build the base set. If not, I'll try to sell the stars in lots. The rest go in the garbage. I live in the US, no one cares about base hockey.

I usually build 3 sets for myself. Then post the remainder for free craigslist every time I've accumulated 4000 or so. Usually some not so well off parent picks them up and writes me an email back stating how much their younger child enjoys them.

I also hate the space they take up, but it seems like a total waste just to throw them away.

If it helps, I will take a couple 4 lane box of current year commons at the Toronto Sports Card Expo.. I don't usually more than that but my customers like to build base sets..

I keep all my base, never know when someone might need some to finish a set. If I have enough cards to put extra sets together I drop them off at one of my LCS and have them give it to kids who like hockey cards.

That being said, unless you are a set or team collector people just don't care about base cards. Some player collector don't even care about base cards. I don't know how many times I have contacted a forum member that just busted a case or more of a certain product to be told that they threw all the base away, gave them away or don't do trades for base cards. Unfortunately, trading base for base is becoming a lost tradition.

I know that shipping across borders has become outrages the last 5-10 years but sometimes it's a better option then Ebay, COMC, and Sportslot.

If anyone in the US wants to get rid of some base let me know and hopefully we can work something out.

All the doubles eventually reach my little cousin. He's going to love it this year when I see him at Christmas after the Toronto Maple Leafs centennial boxes come out! My wallet on the other hand might not love me nearly as much...

what do you do with commons?

This is a question for collectors who buy boxes and cases. What do you do with all the common cards that you get?

The past few years I've simply given them to a hockey dealer I've befriended at the local monthly show. In return he gives me a better deal on the singles I need to complete my sets and takes them off my hands. It's win-win.

Otherwise, they'll just sit in monster boxes in my basement for years.

That's what I do too. I mix teams and sets, in teambags to the kids on Halloween night. Much better for their health than candies :)

Nice! It's always fun seeing their reactions when they receive cards. Always makes for a great feeling.

Here's what my floor looked like when I first put the packs together:

I also included a few of my Enroth doubles I had at the time in these piles. No doubt some kid will be dissappointed in that pull (haha), but it's all in good fun at the end of the day.

When I travel on Vacation I donate them to the Local Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
