If somebody's looking to unload cheap, let me know! I'll take what I can afford!
Too many people apparently just take the perception the media sells (I saw a similar discussion on VS the other night) and run with it...
- "Ovie 'lost' out on the Maurice Richard trophy to Crosby and Stamkos."
Ovechkin scored 50, only 1 less. He did it in 9 less games played than Crosby and 10 less than Stamkos. I'd argue he was probably a better goal scorer this year (his 0.69 GPG beats Stamkos and Crosby by 0.06/0.07 - the same margin between those two and Gaborik/Semin).
- "Ovie 'missed' out on the Total Points race to Henrik Sedin and tied Crosby."
See above comments. Guy had 109 pts in 72 games played - 9 less than Crosby and 10 less than Sedin. He beat the Sedin twins by nearly 0.20 pts/gp.
So the knock is, why'd he miss 10 games during the regular season. He was injured and had 2 suspensions. I'd use that as an argument that he plays 'harder'. He logged more penalty minutes than any other player mentioned so far (again, in less games), and only Crosby averaged more ice time per game (10 more seconds per game). I don't want to really start a fire, so I'll reserve comments about Crosby...
- "He's not a 'finisher' as evidenced by his early exit from the playoffs, again."
He had 10 pts and 5 goals in 7 games - pretty much his season averages. Last year he had 21 pts and 11 goals in 14 games - avg pts and a touch low on goals. I don't say this to be ignorant, but the 'mass' media doesn't talk about Mike Green and Alexander Semin because the NHL doesn't market those guys like they do Ovie. Green dropped from 76 pts in 75 games to 2 assists in 7 playoff games and Semin dropped from 84 pts and 40 goals in 73 games to 2 assists in 7 playoff games. [You can also look at Ovie's +5 compared to Green's +1 and Semin's EV to see where the 'problem' really was for the Caps]

For the Olympics, again nobody talks about the 'other' great players like Evgeni Nabokov. Nabokov managed a stellar 85.29 Save% during the Olympic tournament. Congratulations to him on finishing 13th out of 14 goalies to see action!
If people want to believe that this should hurt his hobby standing, so be it. I can only hope prices drop!
