I don't think the exclusive with the NHLPA covers retired players, but I may be wrong.

First, Patrick Roy is retired... and he doesn't have an exclusive agreement with UD.

Second, the word "Colorado" is just that... a word. It's not a trademarked team logo like the "A" with the puck swoosh.

Donruss is doing a great job of bending the rules when it comes to the exclusive deal.

I would imagine Upperdeck are steaming about this and perhaps looking into legal recourse. I must say the situation is very interesting.

Probably has something to do with the fact that it's retired players, and the fact that it's not an NHL set per se, but a multisport whereby the hockey portion is only minute...

I opened a box and got a few hockey players. Donruss has fuzzed up the logos on the photos, but not so much that you can't read them. They did not go to the extreme that WWE does when it blurs out WWF from previous matches.

I was just about to write the same thing. I just opened a box for the heck of it. Got a Mike Bossy, who I collect. The NYI is definitely fuzzed up, but still able to see it that it doesn't totally distract from the image.

Well, with the Roy, the "A" Logo from the shoulder patch is gone.
But that Fontaine, hooboy.
I think they might be going for "A hint of the logo is not shown so it doesn't count" idea. The last "O" in COLORADO isn't showing, and part of the Sabres logo is hidden, but I have no clue if that counts or not.

Why is it that certain hockey players sign for ITG/Donruss/Topps but don't sign for UD?

I mean, if you want variety and not Michael Ryder, Steve Schutt, Borje Salming, Lanny Mac autos in every set you have to go to those procuts (new or old)

Im glad that they are doing it ... i really hope that ITG follows suit and walks the same line. UD has had it good for far too long and other companies need to keep them in check since its the collectors that suffer when they have no one to answer to.


Certain players sign for the other companies and not UD because the other companies have not jerked them around and paid them on time.
