How long is a long shipping time?

I have recently been receiving packets from Canada that takes ~2 months to arrive. I thought to ask if someone else could also provide hard numbers about how long is a long time i.e. before such time is passed, don't panic that the shipment is lost. Also, don't confuse this with people being slow to take the delivery to post office, because you should _never_ confuse shipping system time against people sending times.

We could have as a limit one month i.e. anything arriving _faster_ than that could be considered as normal i.e. under any circumstances, don't panic if it has been less than a month.

I live in Toronto, and have sent several packages to vonkale who lives in Finland - normally he has his cards within a week - our record is four days.

I suspect that the person you are dealing with is not sending the packages by "air mail". If that is the case, they are most likely arriving by boat and subject to extremely lengthy delivery delays.

The "person" is a well respected store. The shipments are pretty big packets - I think this today is a 25-card and 10-card holder. I have to admit that I have no idea how to look from these Canada Post "address cards" neither the shipping price nor the shipping method. This is exactly one pound (454g) and this is Small Packet - Surface.

Small packet surface is by boat. Once you get outside of envelopes shipping by air overseas gets extremely expensive compared to surface.

They all are going by boat and are taking FOREVER. It has been taking 2-3 months for my packages to arrive as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by customs, but at least this one is signed April 7th - that is, on the day of shipping. Does that tell us anything?

I'm surprised that so many packages would go to Europe by surface mail! I sent one to Sweden last week which cost me $14 and took two business days to arrive with signature confirmation.

Air mail for a mailer containing 1-2 cards costs under $6 and is very swift - can't imagine it is costing much less to send it by boat.

This store he's talking about always ships surface if the weight is over some limit. Unless you pay extra for airmail. I'm cool with that. I know heavier stuff takes eight weeks but sometimes I pay extra for tracked airmail. Depends what is coming.

Yeah, I totally agree. The point I'm making here is not that someone should ship faster or that you should avoid some certain way of shipping - if you are ok to pay less to get the cards later, sure why not. The point I'm making here is that I can imagine several people panicking when the cards didn't arrive within, what, six weeks of shipping and I would like them to understand that sometimes it really takes longer than that.

Wow i have never shipped any card(s) via surface to Europe and from the sounds of it never will if that is the amount of time to arrive. I had one sale where the cards had not arrived after 28 days to Switzerland sent airmail registered. Canada post would not let me open a claim until the 30 days was up and of course the cards arrived on the 30th day.I had a card come from Vermont USA registered to me in Calgary they tried to deliver it to the wrong address and the card ended up taking exactly 30 days from the day sent to arrive.
In both cases the seller me and the other person were both panicking.

Lol... I have stopped shipping to Russia altogether. I found that "never arriving" was becoming the norm!

In mid-April I sent 3 packages to Czech Republic (all different buyers) via regular mail, no customs form, and they all had the card within 8 days.

Last cards I sent to Great Britain took 10 days, I think.

No problems with several packages to Russia.

On April 27 I sent a card to Saskatoon and he didn't get it until May 25 - must have gotten stuck in the potash...

Yes, surface packet takes over a month. If you want it faster, choose airmail.

most bubble envelopes from Canada take 5-14 days. But i also had one which arrived after 2 months!

From my comc.com account (USA) it lasts 6-8 weeks at the Moment!

But knocking on Wood, never lost one in 12 years!!!

I generally send in a bubble mailer as oversized letter. The postal nitwits will ask about the contents in an effort to prevent this, to which my response is "Fine, sell me the stamps then", because I can't actually tell them to pound sand. Letter takes under two weeks.

That is way too long and in my experience shipping times to Europe and from Europe are sometimes even shorter than to and fro the USA.
