With the same picture. I'm not an Upper Deck basher or fan by any stretch and I know that I have seen the same pic on different ITG cards before but really?

A couple of cards crossing products with the same image I do not mind. When it gets to nearly every set it does irk me. I understand a need to keep costs down and expedite card product but at times the line gets crossed where it negatively impacts the appeal.

Given how much product UD puts out, these instances aren't that common. I don't think it's a big deal either, especially on retired guys who there may be limited photos to choose from.

I do agree that having the same picture, in the same set on different cards is a bit of a let down too.

The same pic being used every few years is not that big of a deal. Of UD's offences against the sensitivies of hobbyists, this doesn't even really register.

That said, I can understand that it doesn't exactly exceed expectations, but there are certainly more extreme examples of photo over-use.

Hey all. I wasnt really looking for justification or hating here. I realize that with all the issues out there that unique photos are will be harder and harder to find. I guess I am just wondering who else can find them and how far apart in years are they. Here are a few ITG issues. They are from the same year and subsets though..

I share Cory's sentiment. First, if there wasn't so much product, there wouldn't be so many of the same photos used. I do have to say that it is rather inevitable though. As one who has to source photos for autograph sessions at our show, I know first hand that photos (especially decent ones) are few and far between pre-1990. Even the 90's is a bit here and there whereas now you can get a million amazing photos of any scrub player.

Also cost is an issue. If a photo isn't already licenced then you need to pay a licencing fee in order to use that photo. In the case of retired players, I imagine the card companies already have the best photos available, have used them all, and if they want to do another card of a player then they'll have to use the photo again.

I think if there wasn't so much product, we wouldn't notice this so much and it wouldn't be on our radar.

That's a great Kharlamov show... there can't be nearly as many photos of him available as there are of other players - very sharp cards.

I agree. Thus I don't really mind which picture they use. Sure there must be thousands of photographs, but I don't know how many actually are available for this type of use or how ITG goes about to actually buying the picture and so on.

You beat me to the punch, that was the first thing that came to mind when I was reading the thread. In general, I don't mind the same photo being used within a set (such as for both an auto and a game used card), for two different sets within a season, or the same photo being used for retired players across multiple years. I don't like the seeing the same picture across several sets in the same year, whether it is the same size or different croppings of the same picture (head shot for one set, full body for a second, head and chest for a third, etc.).
