Verified Trader,
Wasn't sure where to put this one, Mods move as necessary, thanks.
A thread for the do it yourself folks out there. Should be enough info in the pic's to try one should you be inclined. There are other type frames out there, this is a design I came up with & enhanced thru the years.
I've been asked many times how do I build my frames and what are the dimensions. It’s really not something I have plans or blueprints for, each one is built to fit and done on the fly as it’s going together.
This is the frame I’m building for my NHL Finals contest winner member Ferrian1. I’ll show how I build them in pictures. He wanted a mixed frame (vertical & horizontal) which is possible, for ever 3 standing you can do 2 laying, this frame is a 6 x 4 x 6.
You need to use the holders you’ll be using while assembling in order to be sure everything fits, if you’re a smidgen too close on the rows you won’t be able to insert the holders & if you’re a smidgen too far apart the holders will fall out. So the old adage is important, measure twice, cut once.
The following pic’s are in order as the build progresses, in the 1st pic I’ve made the inside rails they are off to the right & a little longer than needed, will trim to fit when the outside is done. You’ll need the rails to determine the measurements for the sides. Note the inside rails & the top & bottom pieces are routed, the shallow side is the bottom which your holders will sit on & behind, the top’s are routed deeper in order to insert your holder up & into then down onto the bottom, they will not fall out.
Wood I’m using is a 1/8” finished one side for backing, the top, bottom, sides & inside rails are 1.75” x .75. You can use a cheaper wood for frames your going to paint, if your going to stain spend the extra bucks for a nice grained wood. You can use other size wood just make sure there’s enough room to route out the top & bottom rails & you should be good to go.
On with the show -
Ready for painting, views from above, bottom, side, top & back

I'll try to answer questions but I think there enough here if you've done any wood working before.
