Hey everybody, a happy October to you all from the Larry Murphy guy. No awesome pickups to show - the last 2 months have pretty much been a dud. But slow times for me have not meant slow times for everyone else; the hits keep coming here, I am jealous, and I am bored.

You know I am no longer a completionist; my budget and the sheer number of new parallels each year no longer allows for that. In fact, I have sold a large number of PC cards over the last 2 years to try to help make ends meet. I'm still looking to add for the right price, and I still make exceptions for the right unique pieces, but if a card has no autograph or is otherwise made redundant by another card (or cards) already in my PC, they are no longer a priority. This tunnel vision has allowed me to streamline my collection and focus on only the most unique and diverse GU cards, including as many different types of GU cards as possible from each of the teams Larry Murphy played for.

What does that look like, you ask? Well, with nothing better to contribute right now, why don't I show you?

And there we have it...so far. Man that was a lot of work for little of consequence other than a nostalgia tour :) If you have any kind of Murphy GU card that isn't accounted for in this post, or an upgrade to one I've shown, something that you just think would look nice with these cards or hell, anything in general, don't hesitate to let me know. If I need it, could use it or just like it, I'd be happy to try to work something out.

Thanks for the look;
Joe Pawich

That LumberKings Detroit cards & all those 2017 ITGU`s -------> Wow .
And after seeing all your 2016 ITGU Single Memo cards , I was thinking , you and me have perhaps all of those cards that are around in the world ;-)

Great stuff, Joe!

Looking through the thread, though, I'm actually pretty shocked at how barren the Washington Capitals side of his GU is. I mean, he was with the team for not an insignificant duration, but no one can find a single jersey of his to put onto cards? That seems...odd, to me.

Those Kings patches though....whew. Nasty.

I think I counted 3 shields and all the stick cards Wow!!!
The Vintage Kings pieces are amazing.

That is a very cool collection
Looking forward to seeing any updates.
All the best in your future pickups.

Joe, thanks for taking the time to put this together. One of the benefits of being a player collector is the ability to follow his progress through the NHL, while at the same time enjoying the multiple versions of cards that are produced. Hopefully Larry Murphy cards continue to show up for many years to come.

Awesome! Awesome Awesome!!
Still loving the Motown Madness Nameplates!.. I'm so hoping you
are able to complete it! ( i keep looking! ;) )

Great show, Joe. Love all these pieces! My favourites are the 3 Game Gear's and those Expo stamped cards. They can be tough to snag years after the event, so I can really appreciate seeing those pieces in someone's collection.

Hoping you can pickup more unique pieces for your collection real soon!

:)

Hot dang Joe, that's a nice collection of Murphy cards. Love seeing stuff of players you don't see often.

Thanks Thorsten. You're right - we pretty much have them covered, and I guess your name is on these ones if I have to liquidate further :)

Thanks CJ. I agree - it "is" odd. Murphy played a number of years there, including some of his most productive, and was even an All Star. I guess the companies figure he's only a draw if featured with his championship Pittsburgh and Detroit teams, or another original 6 team like Toronto. Other HOFers of his era who played for the Caps at the same time have Caps gamers used in products, so you never know. Maybe the Caps' Cup win will bring renewed interest to Caps of the past. I'd love to build up that side of my PC GU.

Wow, very nice!!

Thanks for czeching it out :)

Really like all the stick pieces!

Thank you. I'm partial to the stick cards too. Even with the small ones, I put a priority on color and think I've managed to piece some nice ones together.

Thanks Scotty. The Kings Cup Emblems of Endorsement was a real highlight pickup for me last year, worth every penny, I felt.

You got some of his best cards right there good job! Love the shields

Thanks Seth, it was certainly my goal to retain many of his best cards even after streamlining.

Thanks Al. It "is" fun to track his career this way, and if for some reason he stopped getting new cards, I think I'd be content to just pick away at what's already out there that has managed to elude me so far.

Awesome! Awesome Awesome!!

Thanks Billie. I don't know if the nameplates I need are out there in circulation or stuck in unopened sealed product, but wherever they are, that's definitely one project I'd like to complete even if the rest of the hobby dries up for me.

Thanks Aaron. Expo stamped cards are no longer the priority they once were for me, but my thread confirms that some have GU equal to the pack-pulled copies, so in that sense they make for nice bonus PC pickups and I will still consider adding them for the right price.

Hot dang Joe, that's a nice collection of Murphy cards. Love seeing stuff of players you don't see often.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, when he was playing, he wasn't the kind of player that I could see many people PCing. And today, even as a HOFer, he isn't a huge name. Mine is one of those PCs that adds a bit of balance to the S+Ts of all the hotshot young players of today. They all have their place in the hobby, and I'm happy to provide my S+Ts for anyone who liked Murphy as a player or who, like yourself, just likes seeing something different.

I was thinking the same thing.

Thanks for showing off all of the old school NHL shield items.

Thank you; glad to  The shields are some of my most treasured cards, especially the Superlative Auto Shield.

Very nice! I really like the variety in the collection!

Thanks Brian; I really admire your Lafleur collection and aim for the same variety of prime pieces in mine.

I appreciate all the looks and comments, everyone.

Joe

Hey Joe,

Thank you for your first class show and tell!! Really enjoyed your presentation style! My absolute favorite is your itg enshrined two color gold version, any chance it might be available? :D ;)

As I am a big fan of ud ultimate I love your endorsed emblems card most, but these supreme patches look great too. So congratulations and compliment on your fantastic PC!

All the best Helge

Joe, lots of good looking cards in there. I am glad to see you are still finding your way to collect and enjoy this hobby on your terms, not as a "hostage" of the OCD! Keeping on keeping on pal!

I'm not even sure which my favorites are. Shields speak for themselves, same with the nameplates off the sticks.

I hope there's a bunch of cases of Mowtow kicking around somewhere.... and you and I both get to finish off our nameplates.

The LA emblems at the top are probably the most attractive patches of the bunch... and the 3/3 game gears, love 'em!

Thanks Helge, I'm glad you enjoyed the presentation. I do still like that Motown Madness Enshrined Gold I got from you - it's a nice Detroit jersey card of him also celebrating his enshrinement in the HOF. Actually, you bring up an interesting point - just how many of the cards in this thread have passed through the hands of HI members? I count at least 20, which is a reasonable amount and shows how important you and the HI community have been to my collection.

Thanks Barrie; I'm certainly trying. It still stings sometimes to let some great cards pass me by because I can't pay to play, but I find it gets easier the more you do it. And by ponying up for the occasional "must-have", I can still satisfy my appetite by filling a niche here and there.

Thanks Sean. I hope you're able to get a few more of those types of cornerstones for your own PC, and finishing our respective Motown nameplates would indeed be a major coup for both of us.
