Report: Huet to Switzerland

According to a report on the Swiss site 20 Minutes Online, Cristobal Huet will be loaned to Fribourg-Gotteron for the 2010-11 season by the Chicago Blackhawks. Loaning Huet will save the Blackhawks over $5 million.

With Marty Turco signed to replace Antti Niemi and Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman a backer of Corey Crawford, a move of Huet to Europe or the minor leagues had been expected.

Huet appeared in 48 games for the Blackhawks last season, starting the season as the No. 1 goalie. He was 26-14-4 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .895 save percentage. He appeared in just one game, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs playing 20 minutes in relief of Huet.

I guess he would rather play in Europe then in the AHL. We all knew he was gone, just didn't know where.

As a Hawks fan I must say he is a class act. Never once complained about not being the #1 here in Chicago. But when you are getting paid $5.6 mil to sit on the bench who would complain.
 
The amount of crying in Montreal when he left was laughable. I've always said he was a backup at best. Every goalie has their moments in the sun, and he was one of them. Some goalies got it, but most don't.
 
Waivers first - once he clears - then he can be assigned to Switzerland - and at that point he's off the cap

Wow, either he has a brother or cousin who played for the Blackhawks, or he can be in 2 places at the same time, on the bench and on the ice, which IMHO makes him potentially the best goalie ever (if he would just stick the two of himselves in the net at the same time) :)

Huet gots it... he proved himself in Montreal - that would be very difficult to argue so saying the amount of crying in Montreal was "laughable" is a stretch.

But people will always use one season to justify their points.

Halak was amazing this past year, Price was in his shadow and was slammed when he didn't play well and slammed when he did play well, and Huet wasn't reliable in Chicago.... ah, the recipe for message board chatter. Glad I read it with a grain of salt. :P
 
Is there any surprise that they aren't calling this cap circumvention? As strict as some of these rules are you would think there would be some kind of cap penalty instead of just having the whole salary come off the books.
Just throwing it out there so don't flame me..:)

Hey Andy, I honestly never bought or traded for a Huet card. I said from the beginning this would be one of the worst moves in the Hawks history, and they have made some real doozies prior to this (cough cough Doug Gilmour).

Nah it's the same as having him in the AHL. In this case, the Hawks owner also saves some money as the swiss club is paying a chunk of his contract.

I hope that the Oilers do something similar with Souray.
 
Lucky break for the Hawks.

I'm not sure why the NHL paid so much attention to the Devils cap circumvention (they were guilty of said transgression) and yet said nothing while:

a) allowing the Hawks to sign Hossa to a ridiculous and eerily similar contract to the one that was rejected in July

b) allowing several other contracts to go through (Campbell et al.) without saying a word to the Hawks about how they were basically crippling themselves.

c) Look at this photo:

The Hossa contract did get the leagues attention and GMs were warned that the league didn't like those contracts.

The Kovalchuk went one step further and the league stepped in.

Not sure why the league needs to protect a franchise from being stupid and irresponsible. (signing Campbell)

I am one who would love to see Campbell traded. But, it's because we have Keith, Seabrook, and Hjalmarsson already, with a couple of young stud defensemen in the minors on the way up as well. That $7 million would be much better served to keep some of the players they had to let go. Honestly, all we here about is how horrible his contract is, but it isn't that bad for what he brings to the table. Look at others:

Lubomir Visnovsky made $7 million last year, granted he got hurt, but do you really think he is more valuable or even as valuable as Campbell?

Kimmo Timonen pretty much the same salary, not a number 1 defenseman on his team, he is basically in the same role as Campbell as the second line leader, yet who has the ring?

Ron Hainsey made $5 million last year, sure, not as much as Campbell, but would you rather have Hainsey at $5 or Campbell at $7? If you say Hainsey at $5, well......

Jay Bouwmeester $7 million last year and $6.6 for how many more years? Sure, it's Calgary and they do stupid stuff like this, but I will take Campbell any day and twice on Sunday.

Brian Rafalski at $6 million? Really, take him away from Lidstrom and he is horrible. Campbell for $1 million more, no problem.

Wade Redden at $6.5 million, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Dan Boyle at $6.667, meh, the Sharks let Campell go to Chicago and got Boyle in his place. How did that work out for the Sharks? I'd say 4-0 in Campbell's favor.......

Dion Phaneuf at $7 and Mike Komisarek at $6. I would have to think long and hard about Phaneuf since he is a meathead who has a tendancy to turn a game into a goon fest, but he does bring a physical presence like not many others. Komisarek for $1 million less, sorry, I'm laughing so hard I just snorted a bit.

There are only two defenseman that are in the same ballpark salary wise that are worth more for the money (my opinion), Zdeno Chara and Chris Pronger. Personally, I would take Chara over Campbell in a heartbeat, wouldn't even have to think about it. Hell, I'd pay the guy $10 million per if there was no cap. Pronger on the other hand? No way, he can stay in Philly where he fits in perfectly.

O and if your going to compare players, don't cite team win loss numbers. It makes no sense and you do it foolishly. In one sentence you say:

Right, Kimmo is his teams #2 while Campbell is a 3-4, and its Kimmos fault they lost.

Yep, another statement that Campbell is better because it was all Dan Boyles fault the Sharks lost.

Thats right, you say Chara is one of the best, and you would pay him anything he wants even though he was BEATEN and exposed by Chris Pronger and the Flyers, but you would not take Pronger??? Like I said, you look ridiculous when you use team wins and losses to compare players, and then you contradict yourself.
 
Lol, thanks for the chuckle. Personally out of all the players you mentioned only one I'd take Campbell over is Hainsey and Redden. To say Rafalski is horrible without Lidstrom is a joke. He looked pretty horrible for team USA without Lidstrom didn't he :rolleyes:
Usually you aren't much of a homer but the pedestal you have Campbell on is pretty insane in my book.
