Finally spotted my whale on ebay 10 days ago, I've been searching for this card for over 10 years, I put a huge bid tonight and I was pretty confident winning the item but ended up losing it. I'm at the point were I'm looking for 12 cards so I'm bummed. Here is the card in question.

Anyone else have similar stories?

Thanks
Sebas

Very nice piece, too bad you couldn't get it! I was offered the only lafleur shield twice 3 years ago and I declined the price. I would now pay that in a heartbeat, the seller and card are long gone. Sucks to miss out on rare items

Sorry to hear of your loss. That really sucks. That's happened to me several times with various whales over the years. But I am lucky though, because a couple weeks back I caught a whale that has eluded me for years. Either I couldn't find it/or one, or unfortunately like yourself, I was outbid. Don't give up though. Eventually you'll get another shot.

Not much you can do when the "winner" is so excited about a particular sellers cards that they bid the auction up all week long and place 66% of their bids on their auctions alone......

Been there...done that...will do it again soon. :|

Odds are this is Isaac who won it and he'll be posting on Facebook soon. Maybe he'll sell to you if you plead your "whale" case??? :D

Been looking for an 2006-07 UD Series 1 Jagr and Kevin Weekes Exclusives /100 for almost 10 years now....I just noticed on eBay yesterday that a Jagr Exclusives just sold for .79 within the past month..........For some reason my phone didn't alert me to the new listing and its gone now....

Sorry to hear that you missed out on that great card. Coincidentally I picked up the same player emblem, same set, different year (2003) , a couple weeks ago, and thankfully my bid prevailed. I know this is a very big card for you so hope you have more success on the next one you spot my friend. -Mike

Why didn't this card show up in the seller's completed listing's?
Don't be surprised to see it again!

I missed out on a huge (11 years and counting) whale last week. Thought for sure I would win, but ended up the second highest bidder. The card sold for two or three times what I expected it would sell for.

Happened to me once. You post a bid that is 30-50% (or whatever number) higher than you normally would because you really want the card that does not come up often.

But then somebody else does the same but their valuation/need for the card is higher than yours....

I've never seen that card come up on ebay again.....

But then there are other situations where I miss out on a card, then see another one 3-4 months down the road and you get it for a bargain, because apparently there was only 1 other person that really wanted that card....

one of the best Yzerman auto's every popped up, #19/25, it is the only auto card that depicts him raising all three of his Cup's, with a red auto. beautiful card. put a huge bid as it is super rare card and jsy #'ed... but i still came up short. have not seen another one since. there are only four cards i need until i consider my collection complete and that is one of them. i still hope to find one, one day.

Sebas,

You might see that card reappear at some point. The bidder was none other than plindbergh31 (Matt). He has a tendency to sometimes list cards for sale, at lower than his winning bid. I don't like the guy, he's screwed me around a couple times. And many have called him out as a cheat/scammer/deadbeat. Pretty sure that's why he was removed from here.

I recognized your scrambled username on the bid history. So I figured you needed it for your set. So I backed away. If it wasn't for that, I would have easily threw in a bid of like $350 USD or more. Because I also knew he was going after it. And I get my pride and joy seeing him either pay through the roof, or adding a great card to my collection. So it's a win/win for me. Sorry it didn't work out. But like I said, your time will come, buddy. You'll get the next one..just give me some advanced noticed :D

Cheers,

Sorry to see you missed out! I know the pain as my wantlist is pretty tiny now and a card I want pops up maybe every 2-3 months if I am lucky.

One card that has been on my wantlist forever is the 91-92 OPC Premier Vladimir Konstantinov Error RC (Lidstrom Back). A raw copy of the card was listed in May for around $130 buy it now and I laughed at the price and moved on. It nagged at me for a few weeks and when I went back to check on it, it was gone, sold....

Lesson learned Eli, I was the winner with a 150$ bid but I figured might as well play it safe and put 269$ a few seconds before the end. 😩

I just missed a card I've been searching for, for a few years because it was listed on eBay the day after I went on vacation and I wasn't able to keep track when it ended. There was only one bid. It's my own fault, but frustrating circumstances nonetheless!
