HUGE SCAM...beware

So I've always wondered, what happens to these guys? Does Ebay file some sort of fraud charge and the cops show up at his door or does he just disappear with evreyones money? Ebay should have a "busted" area on their site with photos and charges against these morons.

well all his auctions have been removed from ebay. he is now NARU'd/ thank god i filed my chargeback on sat. ebay will repay everyone. i just hope now ebay goes back after him.

They will only be able to recover whatever is in his account if anything. Pretty sure ebay no longer has any seperate buyer coverage now that paypal runs the show. Hopefully a few people got claims in fast enough that they were able to put a hold on some of his funds in his paypal account anyways. As far as ebay going after him you can pretty much forget it, the last huge case like this was left alone entirely by ebay and that was almost $100K worth of fraud. Hopefully lots of people paid via credit card through paypal at least then they're 100% covered.

darren, i called paypal yesterday regarding this claim. they said as long as its an ebay item, buyers have "buyer's protection" if they paid via paypal and will be reimbursing ALL buyers %100

Unfortunately that seller only qualified for Second Tier Paypal Buyer Protection on his auctions and only provides coverage of $200 US due to his feedback at the time of listing. He did not qualify as a Top Tier coverage seller. Anything over that will rely on Paypal being able to recover funds from him which ain't likely to happen. Paypal does it's best to bury those little details in their policies but they are there. With only the one auction you should be fine but there was some people that won several of his auctions and their only hope will be that they used a CC to fund the Paypal payment.

eBay is a troller's and scammer's paradise... it'll get worse before it gets better too.
With the economy in the tank the way it is, crime like this will likely jump rather significantly, as people struggle to pay the bills.

But most of us have been around long enough to snuff out a scam like the one this dude was trying to pull.

Lesson: Do your research. If you have doubts, ask them for a different scan (asking for a scan of the back when one isn't in the auction tends to work)... if it feels sketchy, it probably is...

Listing said 100% coverage. Fortunately, the 3 items I won were all under $200 each, so I should be alright. Filed my claims on Tuesday.

This post must be about eBay member mahoganygresham. I was the last person to leave a positive feedback. I won the lot of Hasek from him. He had a second lot which I also ended up buying from him. Both lots arrived and were legit. They were clearly a really nice collection he'd come up with over some time.
Anyways, I hope the people who got ripped off by him got their money back, but the seller was legit for a short time anyways.

P.S. I only found this thread because I did a search of my HI ID looking for a sale transaction. It's nice to know some people remember me! Thanks Sean. :)

Yeah, I had a seller based out of Newfoundland scam me out of a $100 box of 2007/08 SP Authentic and at least a dozen other people out of even more money. He cashed out, disappeared, and PayPal couldn't recover the funds from his account. Nothing was done to him, and I haven't seen a cent of my $100 back since. This was last summer.
