Hey Guys, i just wanted to let everyone know of something real cool that is happening this year. i play softball in a garage league, and we play friday nights. it is a small league that over the last 9 years consisted of just 4 teams. this year we had our president step down and replaced. our league got a little more exposure with the new president and we managed to get a 5th team signed in to our league.

this past friday we played against the new team, and while on the bench as we were batting. a couple of us were talking and were saying how much the first baseman looked familiar.

in the next inning i was 3rd base coach and i asked there alternate, if it was a relative of the person or not, and he straight out said "no, that is him"

so this year playing 1st base wearing number 29, is no other then Marc-Andre Fleury. i had already asked him if he would not mind signign a jersey for me. which he kindly agreed, and i will scan and post when i get it done, and have a chance.

sorry for the long read, i am just so wowwed:)
 
That is sweet. Not every day you get to meet a Stanley Cup champ. Let alone play ball with him.
 
That is too cool. I wish that my league had that kind talent in it. Seems as though he's pretty down to earth, or is at least prepared for the attention that he may draw while playing.
 
it is awesome and he is really nice. listens to everyone, and talks too. we donpt have huge crowds by any means, maybe like 15-30 people on a given night. usually they are frineds or family of the players though:)
 
A great story and its great to see Fleury have fun with "everyday people".On a lighter note if he is playing first base you should let him use his game trapper once. I think that would be something to see.
 
Very cool...! I played in a league against a team that had Matt Stajan, the Colaiacovo brothers and some prospects from the Red Wings organization. Good to hear Fleury is that approachable.

its funny you mention the above. there was one hard line out to the second baseman who threw to first to double up our runner, and he actually pulled his splits out to extend and stretch out. identical to his patent one leg kic split save:)
 
wow, based on your story I think his next contract might forbid him from playing baseball in the offseason. what if he got hurt?

I was thinking the same thing...one more story from playing against Stajan and the Colaiacovos, if anyone remembers the knee injury Carlo suffered after coming back from knee surgery (while playing for the Leafs)...that was a load. He was injured in a game against us and they passed it off as an injury suffered in practice.

They have clear wording in their contracts about extra curricular activities (although, that might not be the case in Fleury's contract) but I'm certain the first contracts do have that.
 
Depends - some guys have played basketball as part of their conditioning too and have gotten hurt.

Now if someone was skydiving, motorbike racing, knife throwing or generally playing Super Dave Osborne... that would probably be precluded as a high risk activity that would be forbidden

Impossible. There is no human being alive that could come anywhere near to even beginning to replicate the feats of the great Super Dave Osborne. Those who have tried, are no longer alive.
 
i can see your points, as no matter what you do, you are not guaranteed to be safe. but our league is a safe league, with no steals, to score you run behind home plate so there is no contact with the catcher. all in all it is so everyone stays healthy and we play:)

i have seen injuries since playing, but it has been two players coliding together, pulled muscles while running, and the worst to date a dislocated to shoulder from strecthing a single into a double by sliding into second base with the shoulder hitting the metal clip to hold the base down.

so i trully believe he will be okay:) unless i should decide to slide into first and take his knees:devil:
