You actually did well with your hit, IMO. But your thread begs further response.
Different year/product, same ol' kvetching. If you buy ANY high end product with the sole purpose of paying off the case or even making money, you're not doing anything different than the guy who lives paycheck to paycheck, but dumps 1/2 his disposable income into the lottery... or goes to Vegas trying to break the bank and continues to play even when he has the good fortune to hit for one or two thousand when they get hot.
Repeat after me slowly... THE ODDS ARE NOT IN YOUR FAVOR. The HOUSE (or Upper Deck) will ALWAYS COME OUT AHEAD. Buy enough cases (or play enough roulette/buy enough tickets) and the odds are you'll get on a hot streak or two. But in the end, the ONLY winner is the house, or the manufacturer.
Even buying on the secondary market, you're spending big to get the shinys. I doubt many but the most cautious are even truly aware of how much money they have invested ("spent" is probably a better word) on product, either in rippings or secondary market purchases. I thought I was... until I made the decision to get out to reinvest what I had into this hobby into a different one.
All a long way of saying you may want to reconsider why you're buying what you buy if you're still stunned at your disappointment or buyer's remorse once all the packs are ripped or tins are opened. Whether or not you realize it, you're doing it for the thrill and many get addicted. You ARE gambling and if you can't afford to lose you really oughtn't play.
My Two Cents,
Dave
