I get that card values have risen lately, and sure, I've had to overpay for a few Luongo's, but lately I'm finding it harder and harder to drop the $$$ on such "normal" cards. I'm really starting to think something is up all the time. In 25 years of collecting Luongo, I've never felt so jaded and frustrated. Is shill bidding that common these days? Here is just the latest example.

A dual Jersey /99...... at $127.50......with days left?

I didn't pay that much for the Patch variation /15.

And I know this is short printed, but I missed out on a few of these for under $80 originally....

$355US for an auto??

And what about this peerless patch /25 that went for $331US. Really??

Maybe it's just me, but something just doesn't seem legit to me

I can't comment on why it's happening. Luongo's a popular well-liked vet so wouldn't be too crazy to hear they're legit prices. But ya, it does suck paying well over what you're use to.

I collect Shayne Corson and sometimes prices are laughable.

Those are definitely crazy prices! Just doing a minimum of looking though, bidders all seem different, not a ton of bids with the same guy as the auctions, and solid feedback. I would think something is up too, I've never seen prices that high for Lu

I know that his Chronology Canucks auto is a SP and there are a TON of Canucks team set collectors/player collectors that I know locally that are looking for it. I was able to get my copy locally and thought I overpaid at the time, but it was worth it to kill the team set. I love the Chronology Franchise History autos.

Good luck with finding one for your collection. I don't recall seeing any other copies other that the one you listed on ebay though and have been looking on ebay every since release (still checking as well).

I think it's just those specific cards. The first one is Jagr's jersey number, and I'm sure there's some big Jagr guys that'll pay well for that.

The Chronology set is super popular for team collectors, and as mentioned the Luongo is an SP.

The Peerless Patch set is pretty popular as well, especially from the first year of Dominon, which I believe that one is. A lot of those have been tucked away in PC's for a long time.

Definitely high prices, but I don't think anything shady is going on.

Honestly, I think hockey prices are generally undervalued, especially when it comes to sp'd auto and memorabilia cards of legends and stars. I feel like card single values will see a steady rise as the trickle down effect continues from the major spikes in the other major sports. Either new collectors are going all in or seasoned collectors are noticing the fluctuations and biting the bullet by picking up pc stuff for higher prices now rather than risk waiting out a price drop.

I've "overpaid" for a few pieces recently but I've also been priced out of a few major wants because I waited too long.

Where you see a Luongo I see a Jagr, and Jagr collectors go nuts for his stuff. This is #68/99, and #68 is his jersey # if I'm not wrong.

I'm not too sue how short printed the Chronology auto is, and the patch card is nice.

Chris... 95% of the time.. its set collectors that kill player collectors!
Hence one of the reasons why I only collect Shanahan Autos now .. because
it only takes that one person (wont name names in my case) to piss ya off... To change your whole collecting habits. Its even worse when someone just buys the said player you collect cards just for the hell of it! And hold them Hostage......(steps off the soap box) Just keep looking.. you are bound to find one at a decent price! :)

Keep at it Chris. The prices are nuts right now but as we all have seen before..... there are ebbs and flows to this hobby. Just keep at it and you will outlast some of this new breed and be there when the card comes up for sale again.

Also, in times like these when I can't land what I'd like to, I often look at the stuff I have been able to acquire and it helps.

I have noticed this as well and with a lot of youtube channels now talking about hockey cards as an "opportunity" we will see more newcomers to the sport. Whether or not they stay for long, only time will tell. I've already noticed it/felt the increase for other top name players in the hockey world. I guess it is a good thing/bad thing. Good for the hobby and values for the cards we already have, bad in the sense that everything will likely cost more from here on out.

Tell me about it. I’ve been collecting Sidney Crosby.
