I Love Gold - Collection of BGS 9.5 90's Rookies

Couple more mail days.... slowing down now that all the super readily available 90's stuff is being picked off my list.

First up we have Jose Theordore Upper Deck. He was my first huge success into 'prospecting' back in the early 00's; it wasn't called that back then either lol. I dont remember how much I paid but I must have bought a lot of 30 rc's for maybe $1 a piece or something and when his popularity shot up so did his cards. I really with I could track down all the prices I bought/sold for but I must have been selling them for $20-$25+ a pop. I had also graded a bunch and they all sold of big money back then. Anyways this one popped up for sale on Facebook marketplace (out of province) so I messaged the seller and we had a deal! Got it super cheap and the seller even threw in a bunch of cool Flames cards as a surprise.

Next up, care of a local board member, we have Mike Modano Upper Deck. And his real UD rookie card, none of that series 2 'rookie' stuff lol.

So another 90-91 Upper Deck off the list. Only major ones from that set are now Pavel Bure and Scott Neidermayer. Might also grab a Recchi at some point (kind forgot he was even in the HOF) and maybe a Makarov due to the Flames connection. Oh yea and Felix Potvin but I just submitted one to BGS to get graded, should come back 9.5. And maybe a Peter Bondra.

Cheers!

Awesome Theodore rookie. love it when a player is repping Team Canada on their rookie cards.

Thanks! Despite the fact that Theodore stole that Hart Trophie from Iginla I was always a big fan of his.

Also couple more mail days.

Was looking for a Roy OPC rookie graded by BGS but everything was falling through and prices were creeping up so I snatched this off ebay. Super clean with only the one ding/mark in the top right corner. This is now available because further below....

Of course as soon as I purchased the PSA Roy this BGS copy showed up on ebay (which is what I originally wanted) so here we are haha.

And then a silver label Topps Roy showed up for a steal of a price so I picked that up too. Slab needs a polish (thanks for the tip on the podcast Gomaz!). And now I went from zero Roy rookie cards to three. Not the worst card to have a stash of IMO. Goal is to upgrade to a 8.5 OPC at some point but supply is pretty scarce and pricey right now.

Also added a couple 90's gold labels for basically the cost of grading. Kovalev was one of my favorites growing up (already had a PSA 9 and SGC 98 which I'll now move).

And a Shane Doan Zenith RC. Would also like to track down a Upper Deck 9.5 at some point but slim pickings as usual on most of this 90's stuff.

Have a couple more 90's rookies that seemed to be impossible to track down (never come up for sale and zero recent comps) that I found on facebook marketplace. Hopefully they come through and show up so super excited to share those shortly.

Going to be slowing down with the mail days pretty quick here. I've been able to sell off most my duplicates and lower grade stuff and I've tracked down a bunch of stuff off my 90's list.

Iginla SP Di-Cut. There are a couple Gem Mint copies out there but not willing to pay the prices currently being asked. So until then this will do. Beside that crappy top edge its in pretty darn good shape for the condition sensitive nature of this card.

Had to replace a couple 1990 and 1991 Upper Decks that I traded away. Jagr and Hasek. Both of which are selling really strongly in Gem Mint condition, crazy times.

Then a Bure BGS 9.5 popped up in a Facebook group to which I snatched it up immediately. Like a previous poster said there doesn't appear to have been a BGS 9.5 copy go across ebay in a year + (I believe him cause I check multiple times every day lol). Good thing I bought that placeholder BGS 9 copy a couple weeks ago. Lesson learned... be more patient haha.

Another Facebook find... this time randomly off Facebook marketplace. Had to convince the seller to ship it (they had never shipped a card before). But again this is a card that doesn't show up in BGS 9.5 form very often. Glad to add Thornton's Upper Deck to my collection especially since the Leafs situation may drive prices up higher.

And then finally this popped up in a Facebook group and even though its in a PSA slab I needed it! Thornton Black Diamond is one of the rarest 90's rookie card IMO. And hugely underrated as a card in general, the fact it sells for peanuts compared to modern YG's makes zero sense. Unfortunately its so rare and condition sensitive a BGS 9.5 probably isn't going to happen. Based on its condition probably a decent chance at crossing to a BGS 8.5 at some point.

Thats all! Thanks for checking it out.

Couple more significant mail days the past couple weeks.... things have slowed down now but still finding some cool diamonds in the rough on various Facebook groups or ebay.

First up I was able to upgrade my Lemieux OPC BGS 6 to this 8. Would really like to get a silver label 8.5 (or 9 Mint) someday but holy crap have his prices really shot up the past month or so. Anyways this is surely being tucked away in the PC as it pairs very nicely with my Topps BGS 9.

One of the ugliest rookie cards out there but Brett Hull was a beauty!

Last of the super key 80's rookies was then Steve Yzerman, with the prices of BGS 9's shooting through the roof this 8.5 will do.

And then the next day this popped up, thew an offer at it (significantly less then what the previous one cost me in an auction), seller accepted, now I have two lol. Once hockey kicks back up I'm thinking we'll see another slight run on prices so this will be up for grabs to help fund the couple left on the want list.

And slowly upgrading my Roy OPC\s.... from PSA 7 to BGS 7.5 and now to a BGS 8. So I have a few Roy's kicking around now. I think this card is hugely underrated so again having some extras might be able to help fund some more PC stuff.

And then I've started dipping my toes in some modern Young Guns. Not sure how much further I want to go down this road yet. But got these 2 for decent prices on Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by! Cheers everyone.

Couple more mail days....

Picked up another Jagr OPC Premier BGS 9.5. This one is a little interesting as its serial number is in the 300k's so it was graded super early on in the Beckett days (graded in September 2000). I'm considering cracking it and submitting back to BGS to really get an idea how their grading standards may have slightly softened in the last 20 years. Will include it in my next submission to BGS at some point. See if it bumps to a BGS 10.

Then I picked up a Sedin Black Diamond. Card is immaculate. I have a Daniel Sedin at Becket right now getting graded, hope it pairs up as a BGS 9.5.

Next up is hometown legend Jarome Iginla SP rookie card also in BGS 9.5 form. I actually have 2 copies of this card at Becket right now (my best 2 copies out of 25 i have) which will most likely grade 8.5-9. Iginla and Jagr were my favorite players growing up so this will never be leaving my possession.

And lastly I picked this beauty up from Gomaz at the virtual expo. HOF, condition sensitive cards, true gem BGS graded.... cards a beauty! PS, thanks for the pin!
