buy a card off ebay and get it in the mail only to find out that the card is #'ed to the player's jersey OR is the 1st or last in the print run.

Has this happened to you?

I personally hold no added value to these with a slight exception to a jersey #'ed card, and even then, I'd only pay marginally more if it was jersey numbered. Many others don't think the same way as me however as people pay premiums for certain numbering.

Recently within the last 3 or 4 months I've had:

a Phaneuf Dominion patch that just happened to be #3/25. Description only ever said it was #'ed 25.

Also had a Shea Weber Dominion All Star Game auto #6/15. Once agian description only ever said it was #d/15

Again with Dominion but got a Kane Auto that was 1/50

Bought a Carey Price Artifacts patch that was #ed 31 (this I knew beforehand as UD puts the #'ing on the front of the card) but was never marketed as such by the seller.

I had no idea it was jersey numbered until I posted it in the Show and Tell thread where someone pointed it out.
 
It frustrates me to no end that Ebay sellers are too lazy to list the serial number of the cards they list. I happen to collect Yzerman's Jersey number - but I can no longer take the time to email every seller that lists his cards without listing the actual serial number of that card.
 
I bid on my Famous Fight Straps on my phone, so I couldn't see the full description or the serial number in the tiny photo, so I didn't know it was numbered #08/10 until it came in the mail. Pretty sweet surprise, haha. I then noticed it was in the description when I went to leave feedback...

It happened to me with a Kovalchuk Inked sweaters, and I also traded for a Crosby insert for my contenders set, and it turned out to be the purple Parallel that is 87/100
 
Just happened last week for me. Bought a Joe Thornton Donruss auto reasonably priced with a BIN. Pulled the trigger, it arrived, turned it over as I was placing it into a new sleeve and toploader and lo and behind, its #19. :beer: Kinda sucks that the serial number is on the back of the card -- kinda takes away from the whole jersey # thing, at least in my mind.

I know it's not Hockey , but I still needed it , it was graded, and #ed 199/199 which I only really noticed after the listing ended , woot!
 
Happened to me the other day too, but not with something I'd bought. I had a couple boxes of 02-03 Crown Royale I'd busted years ago and had stashed away all the hits. Going through stuff the other night...one of the jerseys I pulled and stashed away happened to be #d to the player's jersey number. I don't remember which...it's in a box for the show this weekend. It might've been Sakic.

I feel your pain especially with the introduction of Panini's numbering always being on the back of the card.

That's probably been pretty rough on your PC I'd imagine, though I'm also of the opinion that I don't understand why sellers don't just post the serial numbers either. It's really not that difficult. If you know the card's out of 100, why not flip it over and see what the numbering is?

I say this with a tinge of hypocrisy since, like I said, I've apparently had jersey numbered card sitting in boxes for the last 6 years (I found another one last night, though I don't think there are many Andy McDonald collectors out there.)

I actually don't list the serial number on my auctions as that I may have more than 1 card. Instead of listing the same card each time, I just update the quantity. Seller should at least get back to you with an email of the serial number at least. I find it easier to do listing this way.
 
I have the joy to experience the opposite (kind of) a year ago. I bought a lot. In the seller listing, there was a Mario Lemieux numbered to 999. When the card arrive, I realized it was numbered to 99! Good thing since I collect Hall of Famers parallels numbered to 100 or less.
 
I've been working on two sets of 00-01 SPX with serial numbers between 0001/1500 and 0050/1500 and then 1451/1500 and 1500/1500.

I've stopped asking single card sellers, but if a seller list 4 or 5, I usually ask. The first series of cards can usually been seen in the scan, but the Updates need to be asked.

The problem is that it doesn't come up in my search parameters "24/".

I know most sellers don't see the point of listing the serial number, and it probably doesn't happen too often, but I usually end up raising the winning bid for the seller regardless of whether or not I actually win an auction involving a Habs card #'d 24/.
 
bought these two Kovalchuks from the same seller a few weeks ago:

09-10 SPGU Patches (3 color) /35 - very nice card
10-11 Dominion Jerseys Prime (2 color) /25

ended up paying a whopping $7.55 for both thanks to combined shipping. got both in the mail a week ago or so and found out on closer inspection that BOTH were #d to 17. the thing is the seller stated it in the title lol, i didn't even notice. guess that adds on to what, imo, was an absolute steal.
