White flag

This is simply insane. I personally don't feel that this particular bit of cardboard is worth this kind of money. Apparently the Roy collectors feel differently. For them, this is normal. For me, this is ridiculous...to say nothing of the folks who collect Ward, Giggy, Lidstrom or Richards.

I yield. Karvin, you win.

wow... thats nuts.... its not even the 8PATCH 1/1... its the 7 Patch /2.... Dont worry, maybe you can snag the other one

Dave

well,on the brighter side the other one may have a better Sakic swatch.i think that anything numbered more than 1 and below 5 tend to do better as set collectors feel they have a better chance of completing the set.i feel for you though, that's crazy money.

And your boy, Joe, has a one color patch....so even more insane for you to go after.

I thought it was bad for my guy, Gabby, to be on a quad patch with Jagr, which makes the expense go up! But nothing with having your guy on a card with the likes of those other players!

That is unreal!

Insane in the membrane!!!

Giving up so easy! wow, that is a crazy price but it would have looked great in your collection!

I wouldn't say when a card, ANY card, has cracked $1500 you're giving up "easy", especially a memorabilia card with NO autos, regardless of who's on it and print run.

I don't think people realize how many of these insane combos there are this year in SPGU for player collectors to chase. It really is nuts.

It's part of the reason i have come to accept not having everything in my Rob Blake PC and being content with what I DO have.:o

Steve, maybe you'll snag the other, maybe you won't, but it will never change the fact your Sakic collection is numero uno and one of the finest player collections on the planet in any sport.

I don't think I was assigning blame here at any point, Chris. Simply conceding the unpleasant truth - completeness is no longer attainable.

Come on Steve, nobody likes a quitter.

Whodja think BID the $K? :) That's not attainable either, and I won't pretend otherwise. CJ and I talked about this one and essentially decided we'd chuck some bids at it for schnitzengiggles, but that's about as far as it goes.

I'll go on record now to say that if I won it for that, I'd be happy but darned surprised. I don't expect that bid to last beyond tuesday.

I guess the pendulum has swung to the opposite side?

Singles going to cheap for people's likes, and now the opposite,

That's crazy money,

As was mentioned in the original UD meeting,
100% completion was a dream only left in hockey,
2 years later, that dream is gone.

This is a direct result of Upper Deck attempting to add "value" to their packs. How do you add value without spending any more money? Do what they just did and create a card with many great players and limit it to a ridiculously low number. Cards like this give people an incentive to go buy boxes hoping to beat the odds (which are stacked against you!) and pull such a card in hopes of turning the box money into a few thousand dollars. Buying boxes is becoming more and more like gambling and this is the direct result.

Steve, don't fret I don't blame you one bit for keeping your money in your pocket. It would be nice to have but it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. You still have one the best and most complete Sakic collections in the world. Who knows you might pick it up down the road.

Update: My schnitzengiggles bid of $1K on the Sakic Octopatch was dead as of 2:30 pm today. Didn't even last till Tuesday. Wow.

oy vey- that is really unhinged how high these pieces are going for but you have to admit- these cards are super gorgeous- trust me when I saw Chris' octo pull a whole lot of scenarios whereby I could finance that card went through my head. Good luck Q, just because you don't win the card at auction doesn't mean you will never own it.

You're dead on. "Adding value" to a product (i.e. making money for the producer) is mainly good news for those interested in the business end of sports cards. For the dedicated collectors with a specific focus, it can be disasterous. For every great pull you've had of a "value added" card (say, a 1/1 or multi-patch sticker-auto item) -- think of your own financial/effort struggles just to find something similar for your own collection.

That is one good reason why my Ward collection was never intended to be complete. ****s, but it is what it is.
Sorry that completeness isnt in the cards anymore Q!

Gotta agree with Dave on this one Q. You've actually helped me acquire several cards in my PC that I never thought I would own. With all the contacts and people knowing you would want that card I'm pretty sure someone will offer you one of the 2 available whether it's now or 5 years from now!!
