I'm trying to decide which specific boxes to crack this year, and I've narrowed down to Ice and Sp Authentic, I'm just looking for opinions on what people would choose between the two. I know Ice is extremely hit or miss, but when it hits it can be huge. SpA on the other hand is usually one of the safest and most fun products to bust, at least in my experience. Since they are around the same price point per box (roughly, I think?) if you had these choices, which would you pick? Also, assume you could only buy 2 boxes total.

Thanks for any input!

SPA is by no means a safe product to open - even now. With it likely hitting around $160-170/box CAD - if you get FWA of Joonas Kempainen and Connor Brickley, and a common Sign of the Times, that is going to hurt.

Ice is still a relatively riskier proposition, but if I were buying, I might just wait for the flood of singles on release day and start picking off individual items and cards that you do want - kills the fun, but it'll save you a fair bit of cash...

You are looking to crack, not buy singles. I'd do one and one. MAybe hit something nice in both...unlikely but possible. Good luck either way!

It really depends on you. I saw a couple of cases of ICE busted this morning and there are a lot of scrub autos and game used cards. SPA is more of a staple product and you know what you are going to get. Personally, I would also much rather get s a scrub auto than a scrub game used card as well. SPA Auto Patches are also a LOT easier to get than the ICE patch autos and I didn't see one and from past years they are super impossible to pull.

Thanks for the input so far! I'm not focused on anything PC for this so singles aren't really my priority for this. I just want something fun to open that doesn't leave me shaking my head hahahaha. I may wait for the Ice breaks to roll in so I can better judge how this years seems.

I think with SPA you get every FWA /999 so at least you are not chasing the /99 like you would be in Ice.

The FWPA are also /100 not like the /10 Ice Premieres.

Overall I think SPA would leave you shaking your head less...maybe

I was thinking of buying 8 box case, but after seeing bunch of case breaks already, its just an over-saturated product. I'll hold money and maybe buy case of SPA.

I was so excited to open Ice this year.........and it came out at $180 Canadian, taxes in.

No thanks.

For the sake of me staying in the hobby, I'll save my money and pray something magical happens to the price of SPA or I am out long term. Thus, I cannot vote in your poll.

Both are still risky imo (especially at the current price point), but it's hard to compare if you don't do at least 1 box of each. Good luck in your choices!

I have two UD Ice boxes coming from Wiz World Collectibles for $320 Canadian delivered, which is a little better than the $180-$185 per box I've been seeing elsewhere. Fingers crossed...

I broke one box SPA last year. I didn't make my money back (wasn't looking to do that anyway) and I had a lot of fun in the break. Even if I hit some "scrub autos", the FWA set is very collectible on the secondary market. So you wil move pieces much more easier than I think in ICE. It was a very fun break, so for the sake of it I would to a 1 and 1 of each for the thrill. Hey who, knows, you may get 2 good boxes or 1 to make up for the other. best of luck!

It seems to me that there's no middle ground with Ice. You either kill it, or you're looking to Ice yourself down after a beatdown.

SPA strikes me with 3 auto hits per box, that there's at least a half decent chance to get something that you're reasonably happy with. Also, don't discount the fact that there'll be an unsigned Eichel FW card in there which shouldn't be one of your auto hits either.

Either way though, you're gambling. So good luck if that's the way you go :)

Thanks for all the replies :) so my LSC has Ice at $175 all in.. and OPC Platinum at $95.. considering the Platinum instead now haha, I think it'll be a much more enjoyable break relative to price

Go with the platinum for sure. The parallels are fairly well collected and you get a few plus the auto or 2 per box. I was excited for Ice then i saw the 180 or so price tag, then i saw breaks of it, now its one of the last products i'd ever open. Plus 95 is a good price on it. The last store i was at had it at 105 plus tax.
