IF Alexis LaFreniere is allowed to be in Series 1, what will be the value of his Young Guns card?

Well, can’t share specifics, but have read and been told there’s an agreement in place between UD, the NHL, and NHLPA regarding rookie content for products. There should be an announcement somewhat soon. To answer your question, my guess is the Lafreniere YG sells for $150 USD out of the gate.

Side note, sent you a PM about something unrelated.

I think you're dreaming. McDavid debuted higher than that on a team that had been destroying first round pics for six years. Matthews debuted higher than that for the league's most infamous cupless drought team.

$300.

If he's allowed into Series One before games are played I hope they can at least get an action shot of him on the ice in his Rangers jersey for the card. None of that dorky draft night posing stuff with the ball cap.

As for price I'm also guessing it'll be a $200 CAD card at first.

I'm curious..... I see $200(ish) as the most common answer here. No doubt being with the Rangers will boost interest, vs a team like New Jersey.

The last three #1 overall picks don't even come close to that.... but let's toss out the dman.

Is everyone expecting LaFreniere to be THAT much better than Hughes & Hischier ??

I know that neither of those guys were clear cut #1 picks throughout their draft year (where as LaFreniere has been the consensus #1 pick for more than a year) so the hype wasn't as high.... and I guess that might also be part of it?

Better than Hischier? Yeah I would say so for sure. Remember Hischier partway through his draft year was ranked what 15th or thereabouts? He shot up the ranks as the season went on and maybe people were a little quick to pump his tires. Besides he's probably going to be a better two-way player than a pure scorer so his stats might not ever jump off the page but he'll play a valuable role even if it doesn't translate to the hobby.

As for Hughes he should have taken an extra year with the NTDP or college or wherever he needed to go instead of jumping straight to the NHL. He's small and not that strong yet and he really struggled to put up points. Production wise it was one of the worst rookie seasons for a 1st overall forward in quite a while so it's spooking a lot of collectors. The production should eventually come but I don't really know what to expect for a ceiling.

I think Lafreniere will be more NHL ready right out of the draft than Hughes and should be much more dynamic than Hischier. That's my guesses anyway.

So it has been confirmed that he is "available to be used in series 1" but thats pretty vague, it doesnt confirm that he is able to have a young gun in series 1. Maybe only a program of excellence canvas?

Us ranger fans have never had a first overall pick to chase. Something to think about when guessing a value/price. I’d guess around $250

Many are underestimating how popular this kid is in Quebec. Adding the Rangers collectors to this will only up his value. I could see his YG easily selling at $250-$300 CAD right out of the gate.

The only recent #1 overall pick that did not have Young Guns in Series 1 was Ovechkin. It's pretty much an Upper Deck staple to put the #1 pick in Series 1.

This, and the fact that the Canadian LCS' would be up in arms if his YG wasn't in Series 1.

And the only reason Ovie wasn't in S1 back in 05-06 was because it was a double draft year for cards and Crosby was already there in S1.
