If you were to move/relocate to a new hockey market...

...where would you go?

I'm soon to be 26 and not really sure where I am going to end up in life. My buddies and I discuss this from time to time. I am about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Love the Penguins but am definitely a fan of hockey. I'm not a fan of the majority of Pens fans; most are yinzer knowit alls that just repeat what they hear on the radio (I'm sure you run into that everywhere).

I have been to a game in Sunrise, FL and would definitely be a season ticket holder if I lived down there. The empty arena doesn't quite capture the excitement that should be at a hockey game though.

At some point I would like to go to Montreal and Toronto but I dont think I would want to live there.

The one place I always come up with is Nashville. It seems they have a solid fan base and a good atmosphere so that's my pick.


So...where would you go, if anywhere?
 
Colorado.

It's my favorite team, relatively affordable tickets, and I've heard that the area in and around Denver is beautiful, and a great place to live. So if I had the opportunity, Colorado it is.

Will update my feelings when I get back from traveling to Denver next month lol
 
If I were to relocate,I would have to say Chicago.
Generally speaking over the past few years they are
always contenders.Plus I'm a Cubs fan.;)To the OP,
if you are talking about Montreal/Toronto in regards
of the hockey experience,go to the Bell Centre.I'm
a Leafs fan and have been to both the Bell Centre and
the ACC in Toronto.To put it as politely as possible,and
remember who I cheer for here,the atmoshere in Montreal
especially Saturday morning gameday is like nothing you
will experience anywhere else.You can literally feel the buzz
in the air.On the other hand,going to the ACC is kinda like
being at a wake.The business types you see on TV watching
the game pretty much sums up that experience.It's more like
something to kill a couple hours in Toronto for those people.
 
I'm south of Boston, and a Bruins fan for life, but this summer we're moving to central FL for a job relocation. Getting the kids into a youth hockey program there has been a nightmare so far, we're looking at Orlando which is about 45 minutes away.

I'm always going to love hockey, and probably going to try and catch all the Bruins @TB and @FL games we can, but I don't think I'll ever be the kind of rabid fan anywhere else like I am here at home. Can't turn down a big promotion coupled with a much lower cost of living though, it's somewhat of a no-brainer for us. Always going to bleed black & gold, no matter where we are.

Great topic. If I were to move / relocate, I could easily pick Washington or Chicago.
It would be so nice to be swept up in the recent history of Chicago and happens to be my 2nd favorite US destination after Vegas. Washington only because I have always liked the caps since I was young.

it's worth,saw the Leafs play in Tampa last
year.Fans at Amalie Arena seemed pretty
jacked about their hockey.Great place to see
a game.

Who in gods name actually likes Vegas? LOL

I went for the first time last year, and it was cool for about a day or two, then I was generally repulsed by it.

To answer the OP's question, I would live in either Calgary or Montreal. Montreal has a chic vibe to it, and a great nightlife, and the Habs are a religion there. Calgary is a fantastic city, we have friends there, and only a short drive from the Rockies.

While I don't think I would ever want to live in the US, if I was forced to relocate for some reason, either Dallas (low cost of living) or Colorado (scenery) would be my choice.
 
Seattle - you can beat the team here and have a franchise to follow forever!

If you plan on settling and having a family as well, Colorado is a no brainer. Some of the best schools in America, annually has 2 or 3 cities in the top 10 of the entire US as best places to raise a family, relatively cost of living compared to some of the others mentioned (Chicago is expensive and crime ridden, DC even worse in both categories, Seattle is a little pricey as well compared to here), VERY clean and green, progressive state, very low crime, stunningly beautiful with the mountains, world class ski resorts, booming economy, and jobs are growing big time here. (A ton of big companies are basing their HQs in Denver now because of it's somewhat centralized location in the US, affordability and just general awesomeness in everything). I 'd say half of the best skiing and resorts in North America are situated here. The weather is a mild climate with gorgeous seasonal changes. We host the annual Great American Beer Festival because Colorado is the beer capital of North America. :D There is very little snow in the metro area, stays in the mountains, low humidity and dry so 50 degrees Fahrenheit here feels like 30 in Toronto or Boston, and oh yeah, the hockey. Avs are great with a nice heritage but the US Olympic committee (including USA Hockey) are based here as well. And if you need more Denver is a powerhouse college hockey program, annually int op 5-10, Colorado College is legit as well, and the minor and youth hockey here are exploding. Grass roots up to pro is very solid. Most people have no idea how incredible it is here and I'd like to keep it that way. ;)

Haha.... I can see that, my wife is not a fan.

Back to the topic. I didn't consider the lifestyle or reputation of the City. I went purely based on team. If I had to factor in geography, I have no desire to live in the USA. There are a plethora of reasons why I don't want to move there and are well documented. I have turned down a lot of employment opportunities due to my desire to stay in Canada. Having said all that, if i had to pick based on the criteria of the place itself. I would not want to live in Washington, but have no issues living in Chicago. So I will replace Washington with either Colorado or Arizona. I don't think I'd have an issue supporting the Avs, but the Coyotes, I'd only go when Toronto comes to town. BUT.. the team the way it is playing now, would be very difficult to ignore. I would be tempted for sure.
 
Also one more note. My Dad and my uncles were raised in Africa. They often joke they moved to Canada just to be able to watch hockey in Canada. My uncles love Toronto and my Dad follows the Bruins. Go figure.. he moved to the wrong country LOL
 
i would go to Colorado, because it looks just like Calgary, and as I live in Banff it is just awesome

As a Colorado native, it is sure a beautiful place to live, Pepsi Center is very nice, yet the overall experience is OK. You don't get a lot of classic feels like you should at a hockey game, a lot of the fans have 0 clue about the game, although we have some die hard fans too. All the music is techno crap (can't stand it), but I think as a first timer you will enjoy the experience as the opening is pretty cool, goal horn is top 5 in the league, and id advice going to a in conference game or a POPULAR team in the east, most times when they play a pacific team (other than LA) it's pretty poor.

I went to the Stadium Series, so I can't really comment on Pepsi Center (however, looks like a great arena from the outside)

Without going into huge detail, Denver was awesome. Beautiful views everywhere you look, was just an overall great city to visit.
