With Iggy's retirement things have slowed a bit, although there are still high end cards to chase (ie. Splendor). This is giving me a chance to organize my cards and revisit some of the early cards that I haven't looked at for awhile. With my pc approaching 3300 cards there is definitely a need for a system to be in place so that I'm not just bouncing around from box to box. :loseit: My preferred method is to look at small year sets, and follow that series up through the years. This thread will be looking at Upper Deck MVP cards, and I'll only be showing completed sets. I'm going to start at the beginning with the 1998-1999 set, which is comprised of 5 cards. They are: base #34, Silver Script, Gold Script #/100, Super Script #/25, and ProSign (auto). I've managed to complete the first 5 years of MVP cards, so I'll be adding up to the 2002-2003 season as I complete the pages.

1998-99 MVP

I've just finished another page. Skipped over the 2000-01 page for now because I had a special idea for the 2001-02 page. There are 5 cards for this season, and jerseys now make an appearance in MVP for Iggy. I've added in a picture of the Saddledome, as that would most likely be the location for the team morning skate.

Great stuff as always Al! It’s nice to see that you continue to find more appreciation for the older Iggy cards, I too really enjoy looking at all the old cards of his that I have. And I will have to follow the comment trend and agree that the Morning Skate cards are awesome. Specifically, the jersey autos versions are my favourite!

Those Morning Skate cards were awesome!

Agreed ! :stare:

Probably my favorite MVP jersey cards, love the design.

Also adds another card showing Iggy wearing #24, another chance to add that serial number to your jersey numbered cards.

This is awesome, Al! Can't wait to see more of your collection.

Naim

Thanks Naim, there are so many interesting “sets” from that time period to pursue and showcase.

LOVE those MVP Superscripts. Still looking for two of the Haseks

I imagine they will be super hard to find. I’ve already checked a couple of my usual sources with no luck for the Iggy I need. Best of luck in finding yours.

Iginla MVP 2000-2001

Here is the page for 2000-2001. There are 4 cards to show, with the base (#31), First Star, Second Star, & Third Star cards. This made me think of the Molson Cup, an award several Canadian NHL teams have used as part of their charitable activities. It is not an official National Hockey League (NHL) award.

Wikipedia says the following:

The Molson Cup is an award presented to a distinguished player on Canadian ice hockey teams. After each game, the "three game stars" are selected, usually by a member of the media. At the end of the season, the player with the most three-star honours is presented with the Molson Cup. Most teams also donate money to charity in the name of the winner of each monthly segment winner during the season.

The Calgary Flames last awarded the Molson Cup for the 2010-11 season. If we look at it's history for the Flames from the 2000-01 season until that last season, Jarome Iginla was the seasonal winner 6 times. (2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2007-08, and 2010-11)
