....so I made a trade with a newer member here. He contacted me about a card that I've had on my wantlist for over 2 years.
The deal was easy to make. He had to send first and we agreed I'd send when I got my end.
So I get my end, card's in mint, a little issue on how it was sent but that's ok. Rookie mistake.

Anyways I agreed to send him out to cards. First card is a very low numbered auto parallel, the second a common ice jersey.

I set the cards aside and when I went to put them in the mailer this morning I noticed that the first card is perfect, but somehow the common ice jersey is virtually destroyed. I have no idea how it happened.

What would you do here, being that it's a new member I don't want him to think bad of the site, or the great people here.

This has never happened to me before.
 
I would simply explain what happened and offer to amend the situation with a replacement and a thrown-in or perhaps a "future considerations" if he's ok with it.

This happens to the best of us from time to time. If the new guy is an understanding person, you shouldn't have an issue.
 
Let us know what Ice Jersey - if it's a common and I have it I'll send it off for you. I've had stuff like that happen and people here have done the same for me :)

same here...for a common jersey, let us know which one. i'll offer to shoot it out for you as well if i have a copy and you need it. else, i would offer to:

1. send back his card, or
2. offer him another card of more value to make up for the mishap
 
If you were dealing with me I'd prefer that I was given the first option of having the card shipped back to me and then as a secondary option working out another deal. But definitly offer to ship his card back to him as the primary option.
 
I'd either offer to resend his card, see if he would be interested in something else and throw-in, or try to get a replacement either here, eBay, or somewhere else.

Just explain the situation and offer to A) replace it with something else he wants or something worth a bit more and if that fails B) you have no choice but to send back his end.

However, most people are very easy to deal with and if I was in his shoes I would have no problem working on it with you!

I don't have the Ice jersey in question, but I do have the 08-09 Power Play Datsyuk jersey. If it'll help smooth things over, let me know and I'll just send it to him.
 
I'd just buy the Ebay card if no one has it and explain to him the reasoning behind the slow shipping. Either way for a relatively cheap card like that do what you can.
 
If he sees this thread and doesn't think this site is great just by the amount of people jumping in with some aid...I just don't know. Hopefully you work it out with him.

These things happen, glad it is not a big dollar item that has been damaged.

I don't have a Datsyuk, but I have a few others - if he is doing the set or something let me know and I can send them out for you.

I am assuming there are Elias cards involved - when is he coming back into the lineup?
