This was discussed at the Diamond Club Summit at the National this weekend. Most of the feedback was positive, and I'm really looking forward to the change. Here are some of the notes I took. If I missed anything, I'm sure Giuseffi or one of the other clubbers can help fill in the blanks.

The site is set to go live August 11th.

Old redemptions that are not in stock will be given a point value. You have the choice to wait for your card, or to exchange your card for the points. Once you exchange it for points, that card will go into the Exchange pool when it finally arrives.

The Points will be used to 'purchase' available cards in a store format. Point values will be based on current market values from ebay, brick & mortar shop sales and other market research. The cards that will be available will range from items such as expired redemption cards and cards that were pulled from UD Quality Control cases and breaks. Also included will be End of Job cards that were not packaged due to production cuts or cards that were pulled from the set due to projected redemption issues and the athlete returned the cards after the card was pulled from the set.

All cards listed in the Hobby Exchange Store are live and ready to ship. They should be shipped within 10 days of checkout. You will also have the option to upgrade shipping as well in the future. You will be responsible for the cost if you want your item quicker.

Non-card items will be available in the future. These items may include unopened wax and UD Authenticated memorabilia.

You will be able to combine your points to purchase bigger items if you have multiple redemptions. However, the point value for the items in the Exchange Store will be higher than that of the redemption itself. If a redemption card you pulled is worth 2000 points, you can get the card if you redeem it, but if you sell the card for points, the cost to purchase the card in the Exchange Store may be slightly higher. This gives the edge to pulling the card yourself instead of others building up points from smaller cards to get a bigger one. Just like trading in the real world, it will be difficult to trade 100 small cards to get one big card.

Exchange points expire one year after being redeemed.

Hobby Exchange redemptions will have two scratch off areas. The first area is the GROUP number. The second is the REDEMPTION code. When you pull a Hobby Exchange redemption, you can scratch off the group code and check on the site to see a list of players the redemption is good for. You then have the choice to redeem the card by scratching off the redemption code and picking a card, or you can trade or sell the card and you can let other collectors know what group of players the card is for. As long as the Redemption code hasn't been redeemed, the card is still valid.

There will be no player specific Hobby Exchange redemption cards EXCEPT for rookie redemptions such as Artifacts, Ultra, etc. The other redemptions will be for groups. You will still have the option to exchange player specific rookie redemptions for points.

Hobby Exchange points will fluctuate. If you redeem a card in November, the value may not be the same if you redeem the card in April. If a no name rookie is redeemed for 100 points in October and he wins Rookie of the Year, the person that redeems that card in June may get much more value when they redeem the same card. Once you redeem the card, you are locked in for that point value.

If you want to contest the point value of a redemption card you currently have in your redemption queue, Upper Deck is willing to re-evaluate your value on a case by case basis through their customer service representatives. Proof of purchase or history of sales will be very helpful to fight for your point increase.

There is a possibility that there will be Exclusive Hobby Exchange sets and cards to use your points on. These special cards will only be available using the points you accumulate.

The store will be instantly updated. If there is only one card left and two people put the same card in their cart, the first person to hit the checkout will get the card and the card will be removed from the other collector's cart.

If I remember any more, I'll be sure to post. If you have questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Thanks,
Chris

It's an interesting concept for sure, VP, and anything has to be better than the way things were being handled.

Well, knowing UD, perhaps I should wait to say that until we actually see this in action.
