Is 2013-14 Prizm.....

You gotta love when these kind of things happen. You open this stuff when it is new, and sock away the pretty ones whether they're valuable or not. Time passes, and you kind of forget they are there. Then this thread comes along and you say to yourself "Hey, I think I put some of that away back in the day".

And then you find 60 of them.

And the top one is this one.

And then you say "Maybe I should dig deeper".

Lo, that's awesome!

It's definitely being influenced by the other sports, specifically basketball. Prizm and their parallels are HUGE in in basketball, they are sharp looking cards, especially the parallels. For some reason hockey doesn't care much about Prizm or Chrome type products and their parallels and doesn't even consider them as RCs however collectors in those other sports and the big money behind them certainly do so they are highly sought after. That money is trickling into hockey as the product is getting scarce and out of range in the other sports.

Unreal find with that Crosby. Well done!

There were plenty of nice finds in that corner of my insert box!
Another was a Cracked Ice Prizm “rookie” of Kucherov! I listed that one starting at $30 and it had a bid in seconds!

I have a few copies of the base cards of most stars from that set, but I'm hesitating to list them. From what I have read, it is common in other sports that buyers return the cards they bought if the market on them cooled a bit or if they feel the card won't grade at 10.

so, this is interesting. I opened up a bunch of retail prizm that year, with red/blue parallels buried somewhere in my boxes downstairs. I guess I will go on a hunt to see if there's anything worth a darn. /shrug

You guys forgot to mention world cup prizm soccer prices. 2014, and the european brands were bananas for awhile but they have since gone back to a sense of normalcy. The ironic part about all of this is that they are commons and you get several silvers and base cards per box. It's all about supply and demand and right now the demand of these cards is the hottest in the hobby.

Went to my hobby shop June 21st for supply , noticed a Prizm 2018 World Cup complete (1-300) set for 75$. The Mbappe alone was selling for 80$ U.S so grabbed it in a hurry. Was looking to flip the set for 200$ U.S (comps) but didnt get any bite. Sent 20-30 cards from the set to PSA. August 21st the set was selling for 1000-1300$ U.S. It as come down since then , might get my cards back from PSA Jan/Feb.

There was a time that base cards from the 2014 WC Prizm set sold for 100s of dollars. They have since dropped in value, but you can still see Messi and Ronaldo selling close to the 100 dollar range. This is base cards, non silver that were 1-2 per box!

So I happened to be looking at my collection on the Beckett Organize, and basically every card I had from 13-14 Prizm in my Caps RC collection took a massive hit. Seems kind of odd that singles, especially of rookies, would go down, when the boxes of this stuff are going for stupid money, doesn't it?

Just because they post absurd prices for boxes, doesn't mean anyone is buying them. And if someone is, they are in for a bloodbath if they are breaking them.

The prices of the boxes reflect the ongoing trend in the hobby that prizm silvers are the going standard for what is worthwhile and valuable in the hobby. Hockey is also driven by it's superstars perhaps more than any other sport and everything else is pretty much worthless.

People are buying boxes all across the board. Maybe not so much in hockey, but SPA has gone up almost $100 since the pandemic started. Series one is over 150 CDN a box etc..etc...
