Sources say Chris Neil turned down the Ottawa Senators' offer of $1.7-million per year and will likely go to free agency unless there are further developments tonight.

Neil, 30, tied a career-low with ten points and set a career-low with a minus-13 in 60 games last season.

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound right winger can still mix it up, however, getting in 14 fights last season; his highest total since 2002-2003

sometimes its location over money. he probably wants out of ottawa, and will be in a leafs jersey on opening night

Based on Burkey's comment's about wanting to be bigger and tougher I would have to agree with you...but to be a player like Neil and be guarenteed that much money?!?! What is Parros making..like 750??

Actually Neil loves Ottawa but says he won't take a "hometown discount". Thanks Chris. Ottawa gave you chance after chance when they could have sent you packing a few years back when you could never crack the lineup at camp. They didn't give up on you and now you're giving up on them. Good luck finding more than 1.7 million on the open market. Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

1.7 mil = hometown discount? I'll miss having him mixing it up for Ottawa, but last year was terrible for him. McGratton's a UFA... bring McG back for half the cost!

Chris Neil also has an offensive upside, making him a bit more valuable.

He's 30, he's probably looking for a 3-5 year deal that would fetch him in the same neighborhood, like 3 years $5M or 5 years $8M.

ill take him on the habs for 2.5 a year
you guys clearly dont know what you have

If you're willing to give a 4th liner that much, by all means, enjoy him. As much as I like Neil, and love him on the Sens, he's not worth more than 1.5, and the offer from Murray was more than generous.
Cya Neil.

The guy is getting greedy; plain and simple. Honestly, I'd like for no one to sign him and for him to be relegated to the KHL. Cheap-shot artist and a punk.
