I know the kid has talent, but he has had a really poor showing so far this year. I know Melrose doesn't play him as much as many would like, but he still should have more points than he does. The question is: does Stamkos go down as another number one overall bust? With the way he's started, it's going to be hard for him to make a legitimate run for the Calder. Thoughts?

winning or not winning the calder doesnt make a bust or not ....
Missed the point. But having a poor season, performance wise could. Now of course it could take him more than one season to get going, but with all the hype that surrounded him prior to the draft, and then the season, he has been a major disappointment. 4 points in 14 games?

hes not a bust but he shouldn't be in the nhl imo

Kinda like Sam Gagner (IMO).

From the games I have seen, he works very hard. I bet if he were paired with Lecavalier and St Louis he'd be flying in stats. But to be honest the whole team stinks.

As for bust, there are a few sophomores that need to be sent to the minors before calling Stamkos a bust.

Vinny took a few years to take off, cant expect every talented 18 year old to burn the league.Didnt see the kid play but i would wait a few years before saying he`s a bust.

Stamkos' projected stats are better than the above guys first year stats... Former #1 overall pick... You figure out if this is enough to call Stamkos a bust...

Oh yeah, the player was JOE THORNTON

As a fellow Stamkos collector, the games that I've seen...
well either he hasn't been playing or hes too invisible out there, no impact.
So even though I'd hate to, I'd have to agree with you.
Right now he's a bust, hopefully he blows up like Backstrom of the Caps last season in the last 3/4ths of the season.

gagner has what they call sophmore jinx, but he put up 49 points last year, so hes not to young in the nhl he went on a 20 game scoring streak at end of last year with all the injuries to everyone, but thanks for letting me know,

Thats the sad thing, the coach won't pair him up with the talented players on that team and won't give him enough ice time.

Theres some nights where the 4th liners have more ice time then he does.

Wow, were in the first quarter of ther season. lts talk bust in about 3-5 years, when we have had time to fully evaluate.

you really don't know what your talking about either, gagner ice time avg is almost 18min a game. hes doing everything right, its all that talk before the season about sophmore jinx got into his head.

well said Grim. theres guys that are stars in the league that have a 10-15 game SLUMP but we never label them as busts. is anyone else from lasts years draft lighting it up?

The question was - "Is he . . . " Not neccessarily saying he is, but just posing the question. After all this is league discussion.

Compare him to the rest of the team, and you'll see that he's not a bust. Lecavalier has only 11 points and he's supposed to be one of the top 4 players in the league. St. Louis? Same thing. The fact is, your team is in trouble if Mark Recchi is tied for 2nd in team scoring. Stamkos has outscored established fellow teammates like Ryan Malone and Radim Vrbata.

Is he living up to expectations? No. But that hardly classifies him as a bust.

Gagner had a decent rookie year, but is definitely in a sophmore slump. Expect his cards to go down significantly, soon.

I've always thought the best way to judge an 18 year old rookie is to watch him for 15 NHL games.
