I usually don't pay any attention to who the high bidder is when I am bidding. When I do see the high bidder, there are only about 3 people I will not usually bid against if I see that a bid has been placed; two of them I will not outbid and the third I'll only outbid for higher dollar items. Everyone else is fair game in my world.

If it is a card I really want, than seeing a familiar name won't stop me from bidding. I might not win, but I'll give it the old college try. If it is something that isn't really rare, or something that I don't have a pressing need for, then I'll pass.

I usually layoff items if I recognize the username as a HI member. I don't really know many members ebay names so I usually just bid. A few times I have held off especially if its not a player I collect and I know the other member do collect them. If the item is low #ed /10 or 20 and you are collecting the set or player I say bid away (however a PM to the member is a good idea so you don't have a bidding war). I think Mal and myself have done this a few times with Potvin (and not bid on respect for each other).
