Is this legal?

After seeing the redemption list for Artifacts I decided to jump on a Tedenby redemption. I won the auction and when I went to pay it gave me an option for free shipping and he would just send me the code and that's the option I choose. I then get this message today;

"Hi,
There was a mistake in the first invoice sent it showed no shipping. I hit
the wrong key and didn't relize that it was sent. Please send $1 to [email protected]
and I will email you the code tommorow night when I get home. Any questions
please let me know Tom"

It's only a dollar but I'm still a little miffed by this. Here's the auction.

if you have to pay for him e-mailing the code just pay the 2.00 and have them mail it...

A new low in charging to send via email a code.
Tell him that sending via email does not cost him anything more. Or better yet just tell him you have dealt with this type of blackmail before and won.

According to his wording you should be paying $2 but I personally don't think you should pay him to email the code to you.

Whether it is legal or not has no relevance to the situation. It is completely between the two parties.

I usually prefer to get the code card in hand. If UD fouls up, thats your only real proof. Emails can be hacked or accidentally sent alsewhere. For a $3 cards, its not a big deal, but anything closer to $40 I'd want the scratchie.

pretty sure it's against eBay policy to sell codes, whether for cards or other things.

That said, they don't enforce it
