I used to like this guy,
but his non stop whining about not getting a job when he was offered a bunch and hadn't coached up till this year pissed me off, and I'm tired of him.

You have to wonder why? One of the best coaches not getting a shot for 10 years. Not saying I agree but makes you wonder. Anyways, lets stop living in the past and move to the Isles winning the cup in 2008 (will take a full year to recover his stride

he drafted some pretty good Named players. Remember he didn't pick Scott Scission (6th overall ugh), Dave Chyzowksi (2nd overall ugh) , Brett Lindros, here are some of milburys key picks.

on another note. im still kind of weary of Nolan coaching. I don't know what really happened in Buffalo cause it didnt interest me at the time. so we'll see. I think i would have rather seen a few others step into the GM role before neil smith. i wish them both the best.

Nolan had several coaching jobs thrust his way - he turned down everything because he wanted to a) coach in the nhl, and b) coach somewhere close to where his son was playing hockey (namely St. Catherines). Only two places are within driving distance of St. Kits: Toronto (who had a coach) and Buffalo (Where he was persona non grata). He was offered a contract extension with the Sabres after winning the Adams, but turned it down because it was only a 1 year deal.

This is excellent. If this is the same Smith who believes that the way to the cup is through Europe, than NYI can kiss their franchise goodbye in less than 5 years.

^ hmm, not like the Isles have been running deep into the playoffs every year.
Smith won the cup with the Rags in 94, he's a good GM, relatively nice guy when I met him too.
And he's a big fan of the Rags white liberty jersey, me too, so all good on that.

I agree with John....Nolan is his own worst enemy. But I think the main reason Nolan hasn't had a coaching job in the NHL now, was because of John Muckler. Muckler has a lot of friends in high places, especially among GM's, and color me wrong, but I doubt a lot of GM's would have been interested in hiring a coach who was generally disliked by his players (Hasek anyone?? Heck, he went so far as to tell management that either Nolan would have to go, or he would), and who got into a power struggle with the GM (Muckler), and completely bypassed him altogether by going straight to the ownership in Buffalo, and was one of the reasons behind Muckler being let go from his GM position.
I also have to agree with Phil. I'm tired of this guy's pissin' and moanin' and "woe is me" attitude, especially after he almost jumped the ship in Moncton this year halfway through the season. He's got a "Me First" attitude, has always had a "me first" attitude and quite frankly, appears to have no loyalty to anybody but himself.......

The thing with Haseks wife is far more urban legend than fact (as opposed to the Shanahan/Janney fiasco or Gary Leeman's moonlighting habits). Truth is Hasek and Nolan have hated eachothers guts for years. with another goalie, I don't think Nolans record would look nearly as good as it did with the Sabres.
