I have always wondered why ITG and as far as that goes Upper Deck only do their redemptions at the large shows. And mostly at the Expo. When Dr. Price first suggested about doing a Canadian tour with a stop in each province, I thought this may be a good way for some of us to finally get in on this redemption thing. After all for those who do not frequent the Expo for what ever the reason really get shafted when it come to buying their products. Is there any reason why every box could not be produced with a redemption code? So that for people like I who opened boxes of ITG Ultimate ultimate could still receives these redemptions. With all the technology that we have today there would be no way for it to get abused. Once a code was redeemed, than that box would be done. You may have to do it by the box only. But I really do believe that this would be something easily done. And those that still support either or both card companies by buying their products will receive these rewards no matter where they live or weather or not they make the trip to Toronto. These are just my thoughts and I was wondering if anyone else may feel the same way. Or may be you totally disagree with me. Thanks, Winston .

I agree Winston that as someone who is unable to attend Expo, it is frustrating to see these great redemptions that I cannot participate in. However, it is something that was specially designed for the shows. If they were to follow your suggestion, why not just make another insert in the boxes and do away with it being a redemption at all? I'm just not sure the logistics would be there for ITG or UD to do that. It would be nice, I'm just not sure it is practical.

Wonderful idea.

I am interested to see what response your thread generates - it is afterall, for the collectors.

Bravo for the idea.

It sounds like a good idea but at the end of the day they do these redemptions at the big show to push more product for dealers setup.

They have both done this before with ( box toppers and case toppers ) you buy a box and you recieve the toppers as an extra.

I thought UD did a great job with the artistic impressions case toppers in 02-03 the auto'd framed pictures.

I say just bring back the box toppers!

The redemptions are to help with show sales creating a buzz about the product and as a thank you to collectors for making the trek to the show in the first place. With no incentive to rip at the show im pretty sure that you would see the shows crumble away until they would finally fail all together.

I think the redemption program should still be specific to shows, that's what makes them unique. However, I just LOVE box toppers, like the Topps uncirculated rookies in Chrome and such. The 02/03 Artistic Impressions framed autos were incredible as well.

It would be nice to see the come back of specific box-toppers, like Jumbo cards, and maybe something innovative.

But, there's a need to keep something exclusive for the shows.

Well maybe some may not like my opinion , but here it is;

I agree with Winston the redemption's should be for all not just those at the expo. I have spent a lot for 2 boxes (10 packs) of ITG Ultimate 9th and feel i am not getting value for my money to start with and compound by the extras people get at the expo redemptions.

I usually only buy a box or two of ITG Ultimate for a couple of reasons.
1. the off chance of pulling something sweet , yes there are some sweet things to be had.
2. trade bait , yes some people do not like UD and only deal with ITG so i need something for them or others looking for ITG stuff

I will be blunt , as far as ITG Ultimate goes i do not consider it high end other then the price you pay for it. Example from my two boxes i got 2 cards worth something and the rest crap.Picture frame sticker autos does not equal high end in my book ever!!!!
I stay away from sticker autos in both hockey and baseball regardless of player or players on the card.Sure it eliminates the need for redemption's big deal i do not mind waiting if the card gets produced.

Most of the cards from ITG Ultimate have little after market value. Here is an example from tonight on an auction site (sounds like flea bay) i bought a Getzlaf patch auto /9 for $28.77 3 colors , if this card was hard signed i can guarantee it would have gone for a lot more.

Frankly Winston i doubt ITG will change their tune and will continue to do expo redemption's. They try hard i know but close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

I think redemption programs should be considered a bonus.

I understand the "frustration", but that's a result of other issues...

I agree. I was asking about this earlier. Essentially collectors that attend the Expo come away with some VERY NICE redemptions that add a lot of value to their breaks. Is it safe to say those redemptions have an average value of $10 - $20, maybe more, depending on who you pull? I don't want to sound like the smarmy collector (in fact, I'm the opposite - the guy that had to scrape together funds to break a box), but this a fantastic opportunity that is afforded to those that can attend an event that other can't, especially those of us that reside in other countries. It would be great if everyone that cracks a $600 product could participate in such a program.

Im thinking if it gets these collectors together and circulates product around for the rest of us, its all good.
And for a small price after the weekend is all over, we will likely pick up the redemption cards of our players.

So whose selling me a Tavares redemption :)

As much as I would like to receive a nice redemption card for every box I open, looking at it from an industry perspective, I would think the promotion at the show draws such large reviews and I am sure increases sales throughout the continent.

I have to agree, it is a bonus for people attending the show that open a certain product.

Doesn't ITG already have a redemption program in effect for anyone that opens there product? Send in 250 point cards and get a HSHS GU card?

I don't open high end products, so I am not missing out on these redemptions and maybe that is why I have this opinion. But I have opened a lot of UD Series 1 over the years and have never received a bonus card from UD, nor do I expect to.

Maybe I am looking at it wrong, but that's my $0.02 worth.

Why shouldn't companies like ITG reward folks who are willing to travel to these shows? Remember that once the customers come through the doors at Expo, they are there to buy. There are a LOT of different places where their hobby dollars could be spent. I mean there's table upon table of singles. You can buy exactly what you want off these tables. A promotion like a redemption program is to induce those dollars into the hands of the wax dealers and move the ITG product, or UD product.

Besides, many of ITG products have the HSHS redemption program, so it's not like they're ignoring the folks who don't make it out to these shows. Redemption programs are just a bonus for those who do go.

Correct me if I am wrong here but this would be a huge incentive for luring more dealers to the show and for carrying ITG Ultimate if they were planning on being there anyway.

I think its a great thing for ITG to do to promote their line and the hobby and its hard for me to begrudge them or those that are able to attend simply because I am not there. I am quite certain that if those of you that really wanted to break boxes and get redemptions would have put a post asking the fellow HI'ers going to help you out there would have been a few that would have been more than willing.

They're called show exclusives for a reason.

I know it sucks for those not able to travel to Toronto, but for those of us who live here and for those able to travel, this is exactly what a few have already said in this thread...a very cool bonus. These redemptions are geared towards the traffic at the show. They're not cheap to put together and I am of the mind that they should remain IN the Expo so as not to devalue the redemption cards.

The dealers that carried those products sold A TON. The manufacturers sold A TON. I only have to wonder how on Earth some dealers got away with selling UD1 for $60CDN a box. Don't have any clue how they do that.

Being somebody who busts minuscule amounts of wax.... the only boxes I have busted over the past 6-7 years are boxes of UD at the expo, so I could take a chance at their redemptions.

I thought I remember Dr. Price mentioning that these redemption programs are very expensive to produce. If you had to make one for every box of UM9 for example, with 1,500 boxes made I think, that's a LOT of extra cards to make that would have to be unique and collectible. Not a small task, and not the same thing as making a handful for an expo crowd.

1 a box? the redemptions were 1 per PACK.

1,305 redemptions made... you're on your own for the rest of the math.
