ITG Ultimate Advice Needed

Hey all. I am trying to decide how much if any ITG Ultimate to pre-order and I am really struggling with the decision. Last year the singles didn't do all that well for me on the secondary market and I think the mail reason was that all the autos were stickers. It looks like this year that will be the same. I think I am gonna break out the 10 ft. pole or just bust a box or two. I was looking for some input from you guys. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Mike

PS - I should mention, I do love the Rangers singles for my PC and I will pick as many up as possible.
 
If you are already targeting several highend singles, then I'd pass on the box(es). Otherwise, you might just want to pick up one box.

However, that product is very fun to open. Take that from someone who opens boxes as frequently as Haley's Comet comes around. :D
 
Don't let the nasty-looking Bowman Factor Jagr mess you up. I'm waiting on the checklist before I make up my mind on this one. I'll definitely be in for a couple of boxes at least. Of course, if you're pre-ordering, you may not be able to wait.

Now I see your dilemma!

EDIT: Nevermind about the Jagr, he's in a Pens jersey, so you're probably not interested in that one.

Get a box and try the luck : a nice Huet oooops sorry nice NYR
and keep the rest of the money for NYR stuff via HI or Dbay

You hit the nail on the head Joe. My order has to be in by the 18th. Now I can always pass on the pre-order and pay "retail"........ By the way, the cases are 10 box cases this year.:eek: Mike
 
I don't know, I did well on the two boxes I bought last year. I broke even on one, and made a bit on the other, PLUS it was fun to break. Difference may have been that I broke it and sold it early on.

Good luck, though...

With the amount of Rangers you might be chasing(and we know you will want every single one) I would just bust a box or 2 for fun. A case is going to be pretty costly and that money could be better served fulfilling the Rangers OCD :)

Stick to the singles. Let some other fool gamble away his money on boxes. Think about it...with the price of two boxes you can probably pick up nearly all the Rangers pieces in the set!
 
Mike, I would say step up and just do a 10bx case ;)

ITGU6 ended up doing extremely well for me, I busted 12 boxes and after selling off anything I didnt want I was in the positive that is next to impossible to do these days.

As for ITGU7, I will give you 1 reason why to bust some of it. Made to order *cough* Jagr? I would much rather get a shot at pulling one, even if you miss it you may hit something extremely nice. ITGU7 looks pretty nifty this year especially the journey emblems as well as the return of the Captain patches.
 
I would buy the case and sell some of the boxes if you dont like the product. I know i would not have the will power to sell the boxes. With the price of the product a lot of people only want one or two boxes. That helps the wax addict in you and gets you some cash to buy the cards you want.

I find myself in similar situations for many of the cards i want. THis is the card makers fault as the price is so high with only slim chance of breaking even.

The smart thing to do is skip the case and pick up the singles a week or two after the product has been released. Sell prices are down at that point.

I did well picking up whatever I could get from that set two weeks after it came out last year, then re-selling it a month later when it stopped being broken so heavily.

There are so many 1/1s and very low numbered cards in that stuff that none of it is worth anything. Teeny-tiny little swatches of jersey or patch. I don't know, the set just doesn't do anything for me. Especially not for that insane price.

I'd 10' pole it.

This sounds like a good plan on paper, but I do not sell wax. Not to friends, not online, etc.... My options are:

1. Break out the 10 ft. pole

2. Bust a box or two just for kicks

3. Bust a bunch and take my chances

I think option #1 or #2 are the plan. Partially because I am not sure the bang for your buck is there and the hassle of shipping slabbed cards.

The order form I got in the mail today is for a little 2 box case. This stuff is dangerous to order by the case cause it's so hard to stop ripping! Not sure yet if I'll be ordering the case or letting it go.

I agree Mike. This year's set looks like there will be more of a win-win chance on breaking boxes. It is a lot of money, but you may pick up a gem or two (Decades card, Retro Teammates, Captain C or the Journey Emblems.)

What is the case cost on this?
